Silly story from the buyers perspective (me!). Sent a seller quite a long message asking different things about the item for sale. It was one of those listings where there are no item specifics and a couple of words in the description. I had been looking at quite a few different things, from different sellers, and quite a few of those things were equally as poor in the description stakes. e.g title said brown house brick, description said brown house brick (I wasn't looking at house bricks, that's just the first thing that came to mind).
I spent ages constructing the message, hoping the questions wouldn't get me offside with the seller. Read back over it and sent it off. About 10 minutes later I got a reply. Yippee!! A responsive seller!! The reply was, sorry, I don't sell house bricks, I sell toilet brushes. DOH!!! Didn't I feel like an idiot!! We ended up having a good laugh about it. I looked at his other listings and did find something of interest and ended up buying it.
I'd cack myself silly if he came to the forums and contributed that story to this thread. I'd go bright red while wiping the egg off my face.

Yes, anyone will relate stories about the funny stuff, but here they are being related in front of the buyers...that's how it is different. Sometimes it's easy to forget this is a public site, not a chat with workmates or friends. Which is what's nice about chatting here, but I just feel that it should be remembered anything said, is said in front of the paying customers. There have been a few threads like this where buyers have put sellers on a no-buy list of their own. Not a controversy or drama, just something to think about. A seller (most I think) can be great to buyers, but one little anecdote can put people off if it shows the seller (perhaps wrongly) to be impatient or rude.
It's the impression of sellers, and eBay, that's made, that can matter. Particularly at a time where a fair few sellers are experiencing a downturn. There will always be the funny stuff, I get that 🙂
I will believe you're serious about the matters you raise in this thread when you post in response to a regular poster on these boards who calls "buyers" numptys on a frequent basis.
Not only is it culturally out of tune with Oz, it is also insulting to buyers generally.
Until then I think there would be few like me that cannot take your protests seriously.

@joethenuts wrote:sorry its cheesy how silly of me I should put on my listings that have the lid off the paint ,that a lid comes with this can and there will be no need for you to drive slowly out of my driveway when you pick up the paint ,are you serious mmmmmmmmmmmmm
about the how much paint do i need for my fence without knowing te size and without the buyer knowing the size .
now i do give aqn aprox meter per litre answere but all surfaces can change the result if i am selling exterior paint which can go on about everything exterior different amounts of paint for fences wood metal pine weatherboard gal and so also if its new timber old timber smooth timber rough sawn timber if you had to put all this down it would be xmas now buyers will message me and say i have this to paint with a rough size and i give them an answere within minutes
I would be very much turned off by a seller than included - comes with lid - in their listing for paint.
I would think - what the - whats this sellers problem, of course it comes with a lid its paint. I would assume that a seller like that had a poor attitude to buyers generally or had a run in with a difficult buyer and was catering for a minority rather than bulk of sensible buyers.
Does it come with a lid ? Gawd ....

The only person I have seen (read) call anyone a "numpty(s)" is you, in your post just here. Numpty is not a word I would use.
Most peculiar post.

Then you have just randomly singled an infrequent poster trying to have some fun on the selling boards.
BTW I agree with some of your points.
BUT ... given you regularly pop in to the boards, IMO if you are serious about this issue perhaps you need to look back through the boards and you will see a distinct pattern of commentary about buyers from some regulars that has occurred over years - calling buyers names and attacking new OPs is generally the pattern. Quite obvious I think, much more destructive to buyer perception of sellers AND destructive to newbies maybe wanting to post a question on the trading boards.

Cats, if you read my posts in this thread (try) you will see that I regard any thread like this in the same way.
Anyone calling anyone else names here is only showing themselves in a negative light.

Indeed. My comments relate to your notable absence when "regulars" make derogatory and sweeping negative comments about buyers including name calling of all kinds. Not done daily so much now, but frequently enough.

Try selling computers and then you will see what silly is..:)
Silliest: One customer called up and said the computer does not work. Asked him if he had plugged it in etc and he said yes. Asked him to push the on button and tell me what happens. He said what on button. I said the button on top of the system that says on. Oh ok. That fixed it he said.
Cheapest: After one hour haggling over the price listed on Ebay and bringing the total down for him twice, one guy wanted yet another $5 off the total. I said no and that we had taken a lot off already and could not go lower. So he said he was not going to buy then. What was strange is that he system cost $2000. So $5 made the difference in a $2000 sale. Wow.lol
