Now the state govt's and other ex pollies are pushing for an increase in the GST up to and beyond 15%, the ebay postage fee and Aus. Post cost rises all seem to be going against Australian online sellers.
For instance, if you are competing with products from the UK, Asia or US, the Postage costs from there have no ebay fees, their Postage costs to Australia are already over 60% cheaper than we have to pay to post something within our own country with no international shipping attatched and to top it all off, they don't have to collect GST for their sales to Australia like we have to. Personally to level the field, ebay and other online major selling houses should be made to collect the GST on the sale of goods to Australians from o/seas sellers.

Try buying something from the US through the GSP if you reckon US postage costs are competitive.

in the UK the rate of GST (called VAT there) is actually 20%
in Germany the rate of GST (called MwSt) is 19%
in Ireland the rate of GST(VAT) is 21%
so in fact Australia is at the very low end of the scale with GST at 10%

but when we sell something o/seas, those sales are GST free

And how about getting ebay and paypal to pay their share of GST for the sevices they provide.
At the moment the pay ZIP becasue they cleverly transfer all their funds out to Swiss bank accounts.
But wait.... this just means they would just increase their fees to us once again to cover it.

Because we are 0.3% of the world's population. We don't matter.

Misterforgetfulsbooks ..........Ebay sellers dont have to collect GST until their sales are greater than $75,000 in a 12 month period. I,m not sure what your situation is but the feedback on this account seems to indicate you would not be required to register for GST. ( I appreciate you may have other accounts or a B & M store. )

He has a B&M.
