The NEW ebay health check.

So I just received the email for this month's health check and it says in there, in regards to GTC listings and renewal fees:

"If you are a non-business registered seller, don’t use the Seller Hub, and most of your listings are single-quantity, we’d recommend you use our our ’Quick listing tool’ to avoid renewal fees. To do so, select “Switch to the quick listing tool” in the Advanced listing tool."

So question, how do I change to the Quick Listing Tool because I can't see it anywhere, and how will it save me on renewal fees?

The 'listing terms at the time' are that GTC listings incur a fee (whether from your 40 or money) when they rollover.

I could be wrong, but eBay's track record on conversion to GTC where they promised one, free, thing and we got another, costly, thing, would tend to indicate my interpretation.

It's ironic that in the latest email they said we weren't charged when they converted our listings to GTC initially. Really???

I've never received a health report but just cancelled 2 listings cos I'd rather give them to the salvos as no one is watching them.

It was only then I saw that it was down as a GTC listing which I didn't know I'd signed up for.

I usually do my listings on my laptop as a draft then add photos from my ipad to complete the listing because

I find the app tricks you into things you don't know about like letting buyers make an offer.

If I wanted to allow buyers to make an offer then I'd list that way.

I just feel ebay is trying to pull swiftys on us all the time.

"Stores can't opt out of seller hub but non-store sellers can."

Yes, they can. I'm a middle store and I don't use Seller Hub (can't stand it!). 🙂

An Ebay customer service agent has just confirmed for me via live chat that if you use the quick listing tool without seller hub you only pay the initial listing insertion fee (or use a free listing). In 30 days when that listing renews there is no renewal insertion fee and it does not deduct from your 40 free listing allocation. So essentially a neverending listing for the price of one initial insertion fee.

I'll paste a copy of the chat here, I've edited it down only to change our names as I used a different non store account to contact them not this one.

Me:
I would like clarification on an email I received about listing fees.

Ebay Guy:
Hello, welcome to eBay Australia Live Chat! My name is Ebay Guy. May I have your full name please?

Me:
Hi Ebay Guy, my name is ***myrealname***

Ebay Guy:
Hi ***myrealname***, I understand that you want a clarification on an email you received about listing fees.

Me:
Yes, that's right. I'm hoping you can help me to understand better which fees apply to my account.

Me:
I understand that with all listings being good till cancelled, there is a fee when those listings renew after 30 days.

Ebay Guy:
Yes but if you use the quick listing tool, it will not charge you when they renew.

Me:
That's what I wanted to check. So if I use the quick listing tool, I will pay the initial insertion fee (or use one of my free listings), but after 30 days it will renew with no charge? Will it use another of my free listings at that time?

Ebay Guy:
Okay if it is a relist there will still be charges, but if you relist by creating a new listing from scratch using the quick listing tool then there will be no charges.

Me:
What if the listing just renews automatically at the end of the 30 days?

Ebay Guy:
If the listing renews automatically after 30 days and the previous listing was created using the advanced listing tool then fees will be charged. It will be best to end all listings and relist them from scratch using the quick one.

Me:
And if I list using the quick tool and then it renews, there is no charge.

Ebay Guy:
Correct.

Me:
OK, and this is only for people not using the Seller Hub? That's a shame as I like the Hub layout but saving on fees is great.

Ebay Guy:
Correct ***myrealname***.

Me:
If I create a listing using the Quick Tool and then it renews after 30 days, will it use up one of my free listing allocations?

Me:
Out of the 40 I get per month, I mean.

Ebay Guy:
I need to clarify that first. Please stay connected.

Me:
OK, thank you. I would also like to know about listings created using File Exchange, and if they attract renewal fees or not.

Ebay Guy:
I have clarified this already ***myrealname*** and as to the previous question, it will not use your 40 free listings as long as it was listed using Bolt or the quick listing tool.

Me:
Thank you that is helpful. For the File Exchange listings will renewal fees apply there?

We haven't received information regarding that ***myrealname***, don't worry I will send a request for confirmation regarding the file exchange and we'll keep you notified.

Ebay Guy:
OK thank you. Lastly, you mention listings will not deduct from my 40 free listing allocation if I use the Quick Tool or Bolt. I have not heard of Bolt, could you explain what that is please?

Ebay Guy:
Bolt is the listing tool used in the quick listing tool ***myrealname***. You will see that once you transfered to the quick listing tool.

Me:
Oh right, I see. Thank you for your time Ebay Guy you have clarified everything I had questions about.

Ebay Guy:
Your welcome.

Ebay Guy:
I am glad I have answered all your queries for today.

Ebay Guy:
Thank you for choosing eBay! Enjoy the rest of the day.

Ebay Guy:
Bye for now and take care.

Me:
Thanks, Bye!

This changes everything in regards to fees, if it is in fact true. I will be creating a couple of well overpriced (so no one buys) listings today to see what happens in 30 days when they renew. The Quick Listing tool is a pain and the loss of seller hub annoying, but if it means free listings then it's well worth it.

Can you please explain how? My research seemed to show that Seller Hub is linked with a store subscription and can't be removed without ending the store. If you could post here how you did so it would help.

They may have opted out before it became set in concrete for stores.

My apologies if I broke any posting rules, I wasn't aware of any restrictions that would get my post removed. I hope this post is allowed as I'm just trying to help other sellers clarify the fee changes.

I contacted ebay and they confirmed that if you list using the quick listing tool without seller hub you only pay the initial insertion fee or use a freebie. At the end of the 30 days when it renews there is no new insertion fee and it does not deduct from your free listings. I posted a copy of the chat but it has been deleted so this is just a summary in my own words.

I plan on testing it out by listing some items today using the quick tool and seeing what happens in 30 days.

I may be mistaken but I'm pretty sure the rules for using the quick listing tool don't apply if you have a store. It's always worth experimenting though - it's the only sure way to know.
