Will definately be phoning Aus Post MOnday to see what they are playing at.

It could be your label that is bumping it up over the 500g. I sent a friend some things a few weeks ago and packed it weighed 504g. I removed 2 foam peanuts and it was enough to bring it under.

I've been telling everyone how evil those packaging peanuts are!

I sent something in 500g bag that weighed 1.5kg and know problems at all.
Even sent 6kg in a 5kg bag and dropped off at local Aust Post Agency and the women weighed and said it was over and I said yes it is and she said OK and still sent it, said don't worry because I spend a lot off money with her, always gives me a good deal on postage when I use online measurements to get a quote, she beats it, so I make more money on postage.

slickonline, You do still risk getting fined as the items are weighed and checked at the sorting centres. Unfortunately your local PO staff have little control over that. So do be careful, you still risk getting fined when you send items with underpaid postage.

Go for it. Just don't complain here when you get hit with excess postage fines.
You DO put a return address on your parcels, I assume?
If not you are setting yourself up for a heap of red dots.
And boasting about ripping off AP is unlikely to enamour you to many members here. Particularly if you charge your buyers the CORRECT postage and pocket the difference, which I am sure you do.

Apart from that, it is dishonest and it is wrong.

Not meaning to hijack, but just to reinforce how incompetent AP actually is . . .
A few weeks ago, I came home from the PO and noticed that they'd charged me $1.80 to post a letter to the United States. This is wrong, because that's the Australian rate. So I rang AP . . .
Me: "So. What can we do about this? I'm worried that it won't arrive."
Them: "Well . . they SHOULD send you a bill for the extra postage . . . but don't worry about it . . . I'm sure no one will notice and it'll just go."
Sure enough . . recipient received it a week later ๐

We sent out a large letter envelope a few months back that we think we overlooked putting a third stamp on (either that of one fell off). It was just over the 125gm limit so really needed three stamps.
And yep we got the underpaid postage fee back.
Thankfully it was us who got it and not the buyer.
So we are quite sure they are weight checked at the sorting centres.
Quite often we are marginally over the thickness limit of 20mm but we have never been pinged for one of those yet. So we don't think they are too rigorous with that particular check.
