USA package delivered to completely different state.

Sent a parcel recently to the USA.

It was meant to be delivered to the state of Washington, but has just shown as delivered to someone in the city of Irvine, California!

I've contacted Aus Post for further information, but naturally the buyer has been looking at the tracking and is seeing the same thing and wanting to know what is going on.

I mean, how can this even be possible when the parcel is clearly addressed in 2 places, both the main part of the satchel as well as the customs/tracking form????

What difference would that make - when AP - pre fills an address - and OKs it.??

The address was correct - it just went to a ' same ' address in another State.

I hope this can be worked out. It’s is bizarre that no one picked out the original mistake; that says volumes about the staff or contractors involved in the chain just going through the motions…

Re: USA package delivered to completely different state.

I looked at printing the customs form a little while ago - I have an issue with the fact that my email is entered into the form. I know it's for confirmation purposes,  but I really don't want my email address being printed out and seen by any number of people along the package's journey. I've already been part of the Optus and other breaches this year, so I'm trying to minimise what I can.

Re: USA package delivered to completely different state.

Can you set up another email account for using mypost. I keep forgetting to check where the email address is printed on the form and if you can not show it.

I always add another address to my parcels so you can read it but likely does nothing if they just scan the barcode to read the details.

Plus I am guessing address details when scanning may override anything written on the parcel.

Re: USA package delivered to completely different state.

I feel I have contributed this before. If you print out your own My Post Business AP customs forms - rather than integrating with eBay sales - the only identifier is your name and address - which are obviously needed should the parcel need to be returned.  Your email address / phone are not there UNLESS you choose to add them.  Yes it is a bit more work to copy and paste from the sales record but you often have to do this anyway as the auto-entry address may not be correct. I choose to add the buyer's phone number and you need to add information on any VAT / Duty already paid through eBay.

Re: USA package delivered to completely different state.

I fill out my own forms in mypost and get a tracking number then pay for it before taking it to the post office to be lodged with them. Any problems will be my issue if I entered them incorrectly into the system.

Re: USA package delivered to completely different state.

I don't use mypost.

My forms are filled in by me then taken to post.

All the details then are typed by the Aust Post ' person ' - if they do have ' pre fill ' - therein lies the problem.

I have noticed local tracking dockets have the postcode to which it was sent - international  - no - just zone.

This should be remedied by putting the international zip/code on the docket received when posting.

Re: USA package delivered to completely different state.

I gather you have a copy of the customs form to show the address was incorrectly entered otherwise a purchase receipt should be enough to show what happened.

Re: USA package delivered to completely different state.

You gathered right - the item was addressed to DC - delivered to the same address in CA.

Re: USA package delivered to completely different state.

@eol - the PO usually keeps the copy that they pull out of the customs form - but they can easily find it for reference.

As an update - I did go into the PO today and discussed it with them. We agreed that I will wait to hear from Aus Post, otherwise if they also lodge an enquiry, it will become a mess of duplication. They were able to see on their system that the postal code it got sent to was, of course, completely different to what was on the parcel. I agree with @domino that at a minimum, when lodging an overseas parcel, it would be helpful for the postal code to display on the receipt, in the same way they can display it on the receipt for domestic tracking

In the meantime, it's a little frustrating that Aus Post has not yet responded after 3 business days, but I know they are probably snowed under with enquiries.
