Just something I have noticed as I mainly buy dvd's and games on ebay but some postage payments some users are asking for is crazy. I have posted to pretty much every state in Aus before so I know roughly how much postage of just a dvd should cost but I see some users charging up to $12 standard delivery just to post!
I know people try to bump up postage to get more money but this is crazy. Standard Postage including envelope etc should really cost no more then say $4/5 I think ebay should limit the ammount users can charge for postage on items such as dvd's because we all know the rough cost and I think it has the reverse effect on buyers as I won't pay $10 for an item that's worth less I have found offering free postage gets me more money anyway.

Some sellers charge above costs for one reason or another, but $4-5 is unrealistic if the seller is packaging and posting them as a parcel. If they are, it is $6.95 postage for up to 500gm, and (if using a flat rate satchel) around $11 or so for up to 3kg, plus any other costs like packaging. They may also be using flat rate boxes (also parcel rates), so in that instance the pricing would be justified. If you look at the postage and payments tab, it should tell you which kind of delivery service the seller has selected.
$12 for a single game/dvd being posted as an unregistered large letter does seem a bit steep, but there are postage caps for flat rate in most media categories already, however because some services can cost more than that, there is an option to use calculated postage for services like the satchels / parcels.
Best thing to do if you don't like the prices is to not buy. ๐

Any seller who overcharges for postage is nuts, because:
1. Hardly anyone wil buy their stuff
2. Anyone who does buy their stuff will blast them on their star ratings for postage.

I understand that for registered services etc the postage will cost more but I have seen people charging up to $12 for a standard dvd sized package standard delivery and thats way overpriced. But as you said if I don't like it I don't pay.

hi
i think it depends on how they send it
im charging $8.25-500gm satchel with tracking
this covers me for paypal and ebay if anything happens
i can track it and so can my buyers
if you send it in an envelope its not covered
it should state in the description as i do exactly how its being posted for the amount being charged

I offer free postage and just incorporate the cost of postage into the price. Sure I lose $1 or $2 sometimes but it is better in the long run with DSR ratings etc.
Who really cares if other people are charging $12 for postage alone. Just don't buy from them.

I'm a brand new seller and even I agree that $12 is far too much for postage costs. Nothing against free postage myself, but being a new seller on Ebay, I'd like to be fully protected at all times.
I don't really know the Ebay game yet as most experienced sellers do, so I normally do calculated postage which usually comes out as $9.30 for all of my dvds, no matter the size. As I said, it covers me incase of any incidents and I feel it may be safer overall being new to selling.
But again (hate to be a broken record), I don't know fully how Ebay works yet or what exactly to do, so my advice may not be reliable. I just like peace of mind and I'd say that I still get a great deal of money from it vs free postage, but I don't really know.
