this happened to my daughter, what would you do
she purchased 3 separate small items that was $4.00 each with free postage that went into a large letter $1.40 very light weight .
now what would you do as a seller they can all fit and weigh in a large letter under the 125g weight would you send it in 1 large letter or separately or send it in 1 large letter and give a refund for postage or no refund

It was a loaded question, though - that is undeniable and more than evident in how you responded to the questions which were attempting to clarify the options you were providing. And the connection to another thread was immediately obvious IMHO.
Not only was it a loaded question, but when pressed, you continued to restrict the options (why ask what a seller would do if you don't give them the option to actually tell you what they would do? If I would upgrade the postage, why tell me I can only choose standard postage?). That made the thread smack of manipulation (as in, steering posters towards specific results, but not in a particularly subtle or clever way mind you, and you may well find that's why people have responded negatively to it. No one wants to participate in crude social experiments. Maybe you don't realise that's how your posts came across (at least, they did to me) and it's all a misunderstanding on my part, but I choose to remain suspicious of your motives.
On top of that, when I mentioned that I would respond to the situation in a way that was outside of your prescribed options, - though you did say you respected my answer - you also implied I was a fence-sitter. Not really sure how that works, my actions would actually be decisive, they just didn't match the ones you set out.

Plus the fact that one of the options is against ebay policy.....you cannot discount an item price and if it is a free post item there is no postage to discount....isn't that one of the most complained about side effects of the Free Postage that ebay pushes?

I hear ya digi.
I'd have to see the listings for the three $4 items mentioned in the Opening Post before proffering an absolute answer. The seller may have terms of sale that address combining items (into one package). There are so many variables that the a, b, c or d answers can not take into account. That's why I asked for item numbers for the three items in an earlier post (2.10pm yesterday).
I eagerly await joe's explanation of why he asked this question (although I suspect I already know the reason).

I have to ask the question,
Why does Joe start threads or put in his own opinions on posts when he has no idea (sometimes) about what he's talking about ?

joe, you may believe that what you do here and speak is fine, but the members will judge you on your opinions.
I do not pretend that I'm perfect, I just try to stand in front of and beside my mates................that's all............
