WHY does opening bid not show on Auction & BIN items & vica versa

I have just noticed with some of my listings, which are both Auction with a Buy It Now price, that if I view Auctions Only, ebay doesn't show the BIN price.

Also if you view the BIN page only it doesn't show the opening prices

eg.  Autions price opening $69.00 - with BIN price $160.00

in auctions only the $69.00 opening bid price shows, in the BIN page only the $160.00 price shows.

Isn't that a bit misleading on ebay's behalf ??

Has anyone else picked up on this ???

If a buyer clicks on Auction Only then they want to know what is available fo auction ... why do they need to know the BIN price?

Once somebody bids on the auction the BIN is going to disappear anyway (and vice versa).

However, when a buyer clicks on the listing it still shows both options doesn't it??

I too am struggling to see any problem here.

If a buyer specifically searches for either auction or BIN items why would they be interested in an alternative format for the item?

Yes, if you actually go into the listing both options are visible, I just thought it was strange that even if someone was trolling through BIN if they auction opening price also showed & visa versa it would at least give them options.

No need to reply PJ & austeam, I won't be coming back to the boards.

I have found there are a small group in here that have nothing better to do than give new ebayers & the unwitting a hard time.

These boards are titled COMMUNITY, not communist armchair nothing better to do than attack others ... unless I missed something.

Anyway to those who were kind enough to answer my questions sensibly or participate in my attempts to raise awareness on aussie issues,  aussie livelihoods, & animal welfare, I thank you. Those of you take care & have a lovely christmas & holiday season, & best of luck on ebay.

I'm not commenting on anything else, but I just thought I'd say that it has to do both with search criteria, how the person looking has specifically tailored their search and so that the results can be sorted properly if they change the sort order of results. 

If you look through a category, or conduct any search at all, without refining your search, then both the BIN and auction prices show. No particular preference for listing format has been selected, so both options are displayed. 

If they tell eBay that they only want to see BIN items, the auction price becomes irrelevant, especially if their sort order is Price + Postage lowest first - in that sort order and preference for BINs, it would actually be too complicated to show both options and make the search results meaningful. The same applies if they've refined the search to only show auctions with a sort order based on price.

BTW, I just thought I'd add, if you don't refine the search and use price + postage lowest first as the sort order, then the results are based on the auction price not the BIN price, as it's the lowest possible price out of the two. But when someone selects a particular format, it would throw the results out of whack if (for example) a 99c auction with a $10 BIN ranked higher than a straight $8 BIN.

I was a bit worried this would happen so I've come back to clarify myself on this thread.

Sorry guys, the 'goodbye' just ended up on this thread cos I am so over it.....it is actually to do with a lot of threads in the community boards period, not this One.

It is because of the people like platinum git & crikey mate [who hide behind so many psuedonyms you'd never know who they were & post snide & cryptic responses to genuine causes & attack anyone they happen to disagree with just because they are anonymous, how brave !!!!...what small brains they must be in possession of, poor dears.

I am just tired of these type of mind games, it is a very negative place for many. and I truly pity newbies in search of friendly support. I'm too thicked skinned for it to 'get to me', I simply choose now to avoid the place.

Some of you have been wonderful, I've even had my days where I've REALLY questioned ebay & big business & GREED, integrity etc...the world is truly becoming an unpleasant place in many ways, mainly because of 2 things - money & we know what the other one is.  These 2 elements reallly highlight the ugliness of SOME of the human race [the radio, the papers, the tv, & now the internet are always shoving it down our throats...you can't turn everything off all the time]..

I don't need to add any more negativity to my day by visiting these pages, only to find a few smart a...s ripping into some poor bugg r whom hasn't mastered the english language, or didn't know how to pose the question to someone's liking so every one gangs up on them.

So sorry for the confusion people, it was not directed at the responses to my question here.

Wow, so glad you came back.

Life is full of trolls but 99.9% of people are lovely and if the good guys stay away then who will defend the newbies?

I choose to look at the glass that is almost fill instead of worrying about the little that spilled.  Life is really wonderful and I don't really care what I see in the mirror 🙂

Hi Suitcase, I usually don't add my five cents worth on here as I'm a buyer only however just wanted to say I am totally in  agreement with you on how many poor unsuspecting people needing a word or two of kindness and support only get rubbished and vilified.  However, I would ask that people like yourself and others who understand that Ebay can be a cold, hard place at times stay plugged into these discussions boards and offer their good advice and a shoulder to cry on.
