Well here's the difference.....my OH was suspended for 2 days and only kept his job by the grace of a fast talking Union Rep.
His sin....an A4 envelope fell out of an AP white plastic crate, between the crate and the side of the van....it was missed during deliveries and only found during the inspection of the van when he was leaving the base at night.
It would have been found the next morning when he took the crates out to load his deliveries but unfortunately the security guards found it first.
He was hauled before the supervisor the next morning to plead his case as to why he should not be dismissed immediately. Thankfully the Union Rep was on site and spoke up for him. He was issued with a First and Final written warning and suspended for the rest of the week (it happened on Wednesday night). This cost him $1000 in income.
On another occasion he was told not to come to work on the following Monday as his Carriers Liability Insurance was not paid. I had already paid it direct to the Insurance agent and given the supervisor a copy of our receipt....which he had obviously lost.
I rang him and pointedly asked for his email address to send him another copy....he refused to give it to me but an hour later T got a phone call to go to work on Monday as usual. I had also asked the Insurance Agent to confirm our payment.
I have tangled with that supervisor in the past when I was a contractor....he should know by now that I never say something has been done if it hasn't been.

Every so often there is footage shown on TV of postal workers stealing. One guy was shown using gift cards at a department store.
He had taken sacks of stuff home, to sort through.
As in any other field, if there is seen to be an opportunity, people will take it. If they think they will not get caught.
As I remember these things, many others would.
At one point, my parcels went missing. Most of them. Before AP introduced tracking on pretty much any parcel.
There was an investigation, that eventually led to the culprit- I was not told anything about the result officially.
This was before Paypal was a big thing, and each eBay claim would cost 20$.
I never stiffed the sellers for the money as I believed, they sent the items...
But I do not tar posties as a whole. Even after a bad experience.
The ones I have met have all been nice and do their job above and beyond.
Unfortunately, just one incident can stand out.
When I swapped to paying for only trackable and insured mail, I no longer had stuff go missing. I had to pay a premium to ensure delivery. At that time. That, was really annoying. This was, many years ago and security in AP sorting centres has changed, I think.

Exactly.....he was sacked for stealing. As I said in my earlier post.....they will do it once and lose their jobs....there are no second chances within the framework of Australia Post.

It is a bit doubtful, knowing the security that is in place at AP establishments.

Well at Aussie posties are not doing this, I hope...

How many Australian homes have their letter boxes in the door?
He would have been rather obvious doing it at the front gate.

I didn't read the link...think I guessed enough from the title.
I have a mailbox and a front door "mail" thing...so there's a choice. Different posties use whichever they please. For the mail.
