I listed a collection of records. One local person asked if they could come to my home and inspect the items. This way they could determine if they wanted to bid on them or not.In 1 sense I like the idea.Buyer is local.Could inspect to see if they are up to their expectations. If suited they will bid.If not suited they wont bid.
The negative aspect:buyer coming into my home.Is it a risk for all the wrong reasons? What would you do?
Thanks.

If you are female or live by yourself or have expensive toys in the garage etc, then I would advise against it.
Why don't you meet at the local school, PO or somewhere public.

If you have listed the item as Pick up only then it's probably better that they inspect the item prior to the auction finishing. If you do agree to an inspection I would try and arrange a time when you have someone else with you so that you feel more comfortable. Is it possible to move the item outside into a garage?

Could you put the items in the garage (if you have one) when the person comes around to inspect them. That way they aren't actually coming into your house.

McDonald's is a good place for this kind of thing because they have CCTV all over the place. One of the reasons a lot of separated parents handover their kids for access visits there.
I'm funny about people coming to my house. Mostly because it's usually a pigsty, plus if my sheep are inside, someone at the door freaks them out, but I don't really want people seeing what I have either. I live in a smallish town (10mins from one side to the other), so if local people buy and want pick up, I deliver.
I like the idea of meeting somewhere and taking the records with you if there are not hundreds of them. Chances are the person is genuine, but you just don't know in this day and age.

I live in a block of flats.I think I'd be tempted to allow them to come in and inspect them.I'd be tempted to contact them 1st before they visit just to get idea of their budget so if they arent going to bid much at least I wont be wasting my time and they wont be wasting theirs.

I'm a male in my 50s.I dont want to move boxes of records around.I dont drive so that eliminates taking the collection somewhere.

There's a carport but I'd rather not put the records out in the weather.

You should be pretty right then ๐
Good idea contacting them first though, no point them coming around and offering $10 if they were worth a lot more than that.

When I offer pick up items I actively encourage people to come round and inspect before bidding. Much rather that than have them win, turn up and decide it is not what they want.
