We do WE get judged on postage costs??

In the star ratings, the last question is 'How reasonable were the shipping and handling charges?'

Well, isn't that a matter to take up with AUSTRALIA POST?!

Ebay sellers really have no power of what AP wants to charge. And I have never come across and eBay seller who imposes 'handling' charges - all that would do would be to drive away the customers who weren't already balking at the high postage ]:)

Thanks nonny.

The question 'How reasonable were the shipping and handling charges?' should be changed to something less ambiguous like, 'did the seller charge more than the actual postage cost?'

Better yet, they should abolish the star rating system altogether; I think it's a cowardly anonymous way to judge people who are usually only trying their best and at the mercy of AustPost's uncalled for price-gouging.

Re: We do WE get judged on postage costs??

I had my dsr's trashed on the shipping and handling around 16 months ago in my selling account.  I was only a small seller, approximately 30-50 items per month and had always maintained 4.9 or 5.0 in all stars for years.

Yet, the December of 2011 2 buyers thought it would be alright to award me 1 on the shipping and handling charge.

1 buyer had bought 1 item only, the second buyer had purchased 2 items.  I had always for years and years, only charged exact postage costs, nothing else.  No packaging, no handling, nothing else at all.

From memory, the 2 buyers had purchased items that were in the under 250 grams weight, small wooden thomas trains, and even the buyer that purchased 2 items, I still was able to pack these in a box for the under 250 grams price.  So essentially that buyer got the second item at no additional cost added to the first item.

And I was also the sort of seller, that would go above and beyond to ensure that buyers got their items at the cheapest possible price and cleverly pack, some items took me a long time, but if the buyer got their items at the cheapest possible price and were happy with me as a seller, then I had done my very best for them.  I would also refund anything, even 5 cents, if I had inadvertenly overcharged, or had managed to get postage cheaper than quoted.

These buyers both gave me 1 ratings.  And being a small seller I knew exactly who had done it.  Why had they given me that rating?  Because they felt like it it seems.

Enough to bring my rating down to 4.4 in the shipping and handling dsr as buyer that had bought 2 items was allowed to award me 1's twice it seems.  So I had a 3 x 1's from 2 buyers.

That was totally unfair and unjustified.

I had to wear the 4.4 as a seller for 14 months until they disappeared in February this year.

That alone turned me off selling on ebay altogether.  I haven't been back to sell since, knowing that some buyers are just downright mean and nasty and are allowed to lie and trash sellers dsr's just because they feet like it or were having a bad day at the time.

Not one of those options given above applied to me as a seller except the "other".

My opinion, as I told ebay when I questioned how they could be allowed to do that to me when it was obviously not justified, was to not leave them feedback and also added both buyers to my BBL.

I agree with kustom-65, something needs to change on that dsr and reworded, although I believe that if a buyer feels like giving you 1's just because they can, nothing will prevent them from doing so.  Buyers opinion after all counts for a lot these days.

And that's the problem.

It notice when giving feedback, it says 'these rating are anonymous, so feel free to leave honest feedback'

Wouldn't they be more likely to be honest if they WEREN'T anonymous? Really needs to change.

I have to wonder if any of this could come under libel, slander or defamation? Anybody know?

According to my dictionary, libel - a statement or anything (anything = DSR stars?) that brings discredit on a person or thing
