What has gone wrong on Ebay!!

Hi all, Sorry I am having a bit of a rant but am a tad frustrated by the selling process at the mo.

I havent been a seller for a good long while now, just a buyer, but thought I would get back into selling.  In the past as a seller, I rarely had to wait for my buyer to pay for what they bought.  Now I have 3 items sold and monies outstanding!  One as long as 8 days now and not a word from the buyer.  I have requested contact details and, of course, the number doesnt exist!

I think I will be scared back into not selling anymore as I dont think I can deal with these frustrating buyers!! Is this the norm now or is it the exception?

You can open non payer disputes 4 days after the sale ends and anther 4 or 5 days later close the dipsutes.

This will give the buyers non paying strikes and get you your FVF refunded.

Have you got in place the blocks to stop non payers?

To put these blocks in place hover your mouse over account in your my ebay page and from the drop down click on Site Preferences then go down the list till you see Buyer requirements and to the right of that click on show then click on edit. From there you can put in place the blocks you want, to stop those you want to block from purchasing from you.

Yes I know how you feel, its happened to me and more recently Ive posted about receiving neg feedback by a seller who claimed my item was free postage and I have postage costs in the ad,so Im busy chasing and fighting that. Im thinking of giving ebay away, its getting to the point Im doubting the quality of my products even though I think they are good enough to sell.

Yes, I have no opened up an unpaid item dispute but it is so frustrating as now I have to wait it out before I can relist the item!  It is not at all fair to those buyers who have bid on the item and genuinely want to pay for it.

I havent had a look at the blocking feature but surely I will need to know who to block in order to block them which means they will have had to not pay me before or am I wrong? Is it a block for people who have payment strikes?

That's right you can block certain types of accounts, buyers with strikes or low feedback.

Hover over account tab, select site prefs.

Scroll down to buyer requirements, to the right select show and edit.

Then put in  the blocks you want and from there you can add members to a Block Bidders List as well.

Save.

That tends to weed out many nuisance newbies. 😉

Thanks for the tip.  I will give it a go. Such uncalled for frustration this is!  In the meanwhile I will just have to sit it out on these 3 non payers!  Humpf !!

I have seen no overall increase in the number of non payers, I have a couple more now than I did 10 years ago but then I am selling ten times the number of items.

You can block all bidders who have more than one unpaid item strike in the last 12 months, this takes care of the serial offenders.

For the others don't let them get you down, just open the unpaid item dispute after 4 days, the vast majority will pay then and for the odd one that doesn't you close 4 days later and relist or second chance.

If I have one that hasn't paid by day 6 and there are underbidders I will sometimes email them and say it looks as if the buyer may not pay and it will possibly available for a SCO in a couple of days.

Don't worry - it seems these things go in seasons. Sometime you may get a spate of non-payers and other times they may all pay within 24hrs. Ditto for feedback and how they perceive the transaction. Have confidence in your items and they will sell but sometimes if you just want anything, lowering the price is a good way to go.

Regarding outstanding payment, if it's been 3-4 days, just contact them once to say you haven't received payment yet and ask how they'd like to proceed with the transaction. After the 7th day with no reply, open a UPI. A week is a reasonable time, allowing 3-4 days after purchase and then 3-4 days after a follow-up message.
