When is the eBay wake

After living in Canada the past 14 months, my wife and I return to Australia and ned to buy some items to set up house again.

Attempted to login and been shut-out of our account, so no worries we open a new eBay account.

Now to start buying......However a big problem, there are NO Sellers anymore of any substance.

Thousands of junk items listed from China and alike, but all the big Australian online stores / sellers have vanished.

I had to buy a chainsaw and whipper snipper so did a search under Stihl and Husqvarna within Australia, in the past this would have returned 25 to 30 pages of listings. To my suprise a total of 7 pages. After eliminating all the junk keyword spammers using these big name brands, then all the Asian counterfits, then all the general over-priced garbage, I was left with under 2 pages to actually search.

Next some power tools, did the usual searches for Makita, Bosch, Hitachi, Metabo etc, and there was absolutely nothing there of any great value or indeed significance. There were a few massive Sellers of power tools on eBay before we left Australia, and searches would always return 50 - 70 pages plus of listings on any given day, plus some really great prices. Now as for the chainsaws, just a lot of Chinese junk, or overpriced local Sellers. We have a new Masters hardware who stocked the brand name tools I wanted some 30% less in price than on eBay.

In the end I brought a chainsaw and whipper snipper from a local Stihl shop in Bathurst, and the power tools from Masters hardware store in town.

So when the wake for eBay, as this place is just so dead'n'burried ???

Re: When is the eBay wake

hi and welcome home

I think you will find the major problem in Aust is that Makita, Bosch, Hitachi, Metabo, Stihl and Husqvarna etc etcetc are not allowing retailers to buy from them to sell on ebay.

many big manufacturers (not just p/tools but fashion, kitchen etc) are putting exclusion paragraphs in any wholesale trading agreements

"Alas, but I knew him well", from memory that's William Shakesphere, but it just sort of seemed appropriate when speaking of the eBay death !

Sorry but you missed the wake, those of us still on eBay are just sitting round the rotting carcass thinking of better ebay days long since passed. LOL

Re: When is the eBay wake

Positive note about there being nothing much to buy being I'm saving a fortune as my wife was an ebay buyaholic !

On a Negative note I have an item for sale (99 cent start) which after 5 days hasn't even broken $16-00. In the old days I'd be past $100-00 by now on this type item.

Greed, on the part of eBay seems the major issue. the past year has seen fee's go through the roof  and sellers abandon the place

Re: When is the eBay wake

Every day there are sellers here on these boards with not much left in the way of "gruntles".

hi Mr and Mrs verydumbblonde

Welcome home! yay Bathurst!

As for being locked out of your other account - if you need any help to get that sorted out either phone eBay (Customer Service, top right hand of the page) or ask on the boards. There are numerous people here who are very good at helping others.

Re: When is the eBay wake

Perhaps you were locked out of your initial account because of the mandatory change of password required? Still, I suppose it ultimately doesn't matter now since you've created a new account and have already discovered that ebay has essentially died in the interim but simply refuses to lay down and accept it.

Re: When is the eBay wake

Well.... I'd just like to say I'm a seller, and I think I have a little bit of substance, somewhere around the place.  Smiley LOL

I'm not so sure eBay is dead, rather it's just like your stereotypical teenager - full of self-importance, far too focussed on what they get out of things, thinks it knows better than everyone else and doesn't want to listen to experience / common sense, has wild mood swings and has the occasional tendency to hibernate.

Plus, my sales this week have been definitely over average.
