Where can one just have a whinge about something....new seller very discouraged....

Hi - maybe this is a bad idea....but is there some group or board that newbie sellers can have a vent?

I'm about ready to quit - probably my own fault (the "bad idea" is - in saying anything people are free to then tell me all those things I'm apparently getting wrong - or to shush up cos I have it better than others - or whatever......) - but I'm really discouraged.

The new slug on postage has gotten me worried too....if I am managing to (almost) lose money & only get part-decent sales on a 99c start of a Primo Brand name item with free post (NOT sustainable)....then this gig may not be for me. I'm not that well so can only do this in little pieces - I know listing copious quanities would likely help....& I have them to list - just not the ability to get them out there....Smiley Sad

I guess I've just had my vent already - correct?

(I just sold something for 99c - worth $30 - with $5 post (a loss) - and it just bites. But if I only list at what I'm prepared to take at the lowest end....I don't even get a look-in.....it just feels like a lose-lose and I'm dreading May.....)

There - that's my vent.

There is always the Op Shop if it doesn't work out (message 10 if you didn't see my 'story')

Re: Where can one just have a whinge about something....new seller very discouraged....

Thanks again to digital*ghost.

I am killing myself on postage - and I'm not doing it anymore.

I put in a colour-logo invoice with all my items, and 99% have a "Thank you for buying" Sticker + tissue wrap + a *waterproof*  plastic bag - bubble-wrap if required....then usually into a satchel.....and I hand-write a thank-you to the buyer as well. It's time, effort, money - and infuriatingly - half the time I get no return feedback at all anyway! (well...at least that's better than a neg, but then again, they'd be hard pressed to find something to be upset about.....)

My lowest rating is in postage time - and I kill myself to get items out either the same day if possible - even Sat. mornings, or the very next day.....if it's a Sat arvo buy or AP takes it's time....not my fault, but that is where I lose my "points" - and I can't do it any better!!

Methinks it's time to take some advice on being a bit more kind-to-ME.....and realistic. I can still be as fast & friendly & take care with wrapping etc etc.....but I don't have to take loss after loss for the privilege - right?!

Feelin' better already Smiley Very Happy

Yep.

remember, that you should be making money here, not tearing your hair out 🙂

if you do ever get a neg, if it is abusive or mentions Paypal you can ask eBay to remove it.

It is also possible, with the buyer's agreement, to request feedback removal if the buyer wants to change their comment to a positive.

you get one request only for that neg, so a seller needs to be confident the buyer is happy to agree...a quiet, polite email to the buyer first 🙂

For any neg that is not removable, a factual, unemotional follow up comment from the seller explaining the situation can neutralise it for future buyers.

I have bought from sellers with the odd neg if it looks like the buyer was unreasonable 🙂

hoping you never ever get one, of course, but it isn't the end of the world for a seller with a great track record 🙂

Re: Where can one just have a whinge about something....new seller very discouraged....

If I see somthing listed for 99c my expectation is that obviously the seller doesn't think it is worth much so why waste my time opening the listing.

When listing fees were based on start price and it was much cheaper to list for a 99c start then it was a different story but now there is absolutely no saving in listing for 99c why do it?

I charge actual postage plus about $ 1 to $1.50 p&h so my average postage charge is around $8, the extra fee is going to be just under 8c, I can't see that leading to a huge decrease in profit especialy as you gain with free post items as you cannot give any discounts even if you wanted to.

You are wrong PJ on $8 post the increase will be closer to 80c

Please read about the changes as well as others posts before spamming the boards with incorrect information.
