I have checked back through older threads about this, and based on the suggestions provided, ebay in their wisdom have changed the process since this was last answered.
So how do you stop immediate payment when someone buys an item? if they want to combine postage or want to pick up?

Yes, I'm pretty sure this has come from the buyer's end in the particular example that prompted this post.
But how can I ensure it doesn't happen my end?

Gotta love those ebay 'helpful' suggestions. All very well if you want to know how to implement immediate payment. Nothing about how to remove it.

I've just picked a random listing and started to revise it and found out where the immediate payment thingy is done. I didn't have it checked on the random listing I chose to revise and doubt very much that I have ever selected it when listing, as I want buyers to be able to make multiple purchases. So the setting must have been on my buyer's end (why would they choose this?)

Some of us have been forced into immediate payment, regardless of our settings. None of my boxes are ticked but all my buyers of BIN items are forced to pay immediately. Ebay said it's to try and cut back on non payers. What a load of rot. I'm lucky to get one non payer a year. The only way around it is to get buyers to add the items to their cart and then request a total. That can't be done via the app, it has to be via the full site.

New seller here . . . eBay keeps taking down my listings cos I'm demanding "immediate payment" but I can't see where to untick it, it is just on the listing itself or somewhere in my account?
Clicking the links in the email takes me to random eBay help pages which don't have any menu paths or screen shots which would help identify where to untick it or what the option is even called!
So frustrating.
