Why do sellers leave feedback for non paying bidders!

Have had a buyer bid on lots of my items recently after not paying for items already won. I ended up looking at their feedback of which they have over 200 positive, to discover a large amount of that is actually sellers saying that this person bids on multiple items and doesn't pay. Whilst that was helpfull for me in that I could then cancell all their bids, it does nothing to help remove them from ebay! I know it must be tempting for some to get it off their chest and let their feelings be known, but this person does not care one bit anyway. Don't understand why people are not getting their fees back and helping to remove them. Meanwhile, this persons positive feedback is going up and up!

Don't believe it ~ betcha loads of those sellers choose not to have blocks in place.

Betcha quite a few of those sellers gave this buyer a strike.

Regardless of strikes accumulated I betcha the buyer just hasn't been NARU'D by ebay, because there is NO policy stating at what point a buyers account will be suspended or closed.

rosa-b-eve...define (sic) Helpfull for me

helpful - providing assistance or serving a useful function. accommodating, accommodative

That's why sellers do it to be helpful

because ebay has no policy to remove NPB for multiple non pays there is no 3 strikes and you are out. buyers can appeal a srtrike even if it is a legitimate non pay and have the strike removed... we have tested it more than once in threads o these boards over the years

The reason why strikes are not made public has something to do with privacy issues

a link please to your information regarding buyer feedback and privacy given that the only people that will know the NPB other than by a username  will be those members that the NPB has not paid ie. the rest of us  see mugginsthedirtbagnonpayer and only those that were not paid will know that username belongs to John Smith (something the selling member already know whether the buyer pays or not)?

rather than type this again and again  check out the threads on the links below and vote in the poll

Re: Why do sellers leave feedback for non paying bidders!

I should add that ebay makes the same profit for an item that is listed and does not sell

as compared to

an item that is listed and "sells" but the non paying member does not pay....... ie the listing fees are lost either way

no skin off ebays nose they still get the sellers listing fees.

recording buyer strikes on a members account provides transparency and disallows sellers to leave negative positives because...wait for it.....

ebay has aleady filled the space with a big $ non paying bidder sign.

It would not take long for those sellers that crave retaliation to work out how to leave the "mark" and negative positives would be a thing of the past.

Making any process transparent instils confidence in the users and increases participation

...just a ittle unsure whether that is what ebay really wants????

What foxy said - and continue to add feedback stars to non paying  buyers, well done, that really helps the system work (not) 😞

I think it higlights that the NPB strike system does not work. I think that if ebay wants to instil confidence in a system then they shopuld make it transparent so those sellers that are not confident in ebays ability to control non paying bidders can see the system in action and it's consequences.

I think that it would be impossible to expect that at least 2 of the 200 did not file unpaid items strikes.

I *guess* that MANY sellers that had their blocks in place but found that the non paying member was still able to promise to purchase HAVE LOST CONFIDENCE THAT EBAY ACTUALLY ISSUES STRIKES and so warned other sellers TRANSPARENTLY in that members feedback and given that ebay explain feedback as

http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/feedback/howitworks.html

Why leave Feedback?

Leaving honest comments gives members a good idea of what to expect when dealing with other members. Leaving Feedback is also a way to express your appreciation for a job well done. Finally, if you are a buyer, you can help spread the word about a seller you like, and if you are a seller, you can help recognise and reward loyal customers, which encourages them to buy from you again.

http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/policies/inappropriate-feedback-comments.html

Why does eBay have this policy?

We want Feedback to be an open and honest way for members to share their experiences with other members. This helps buyers and sellers decide whom they want to do business with. However, there are certain things we won't allow, like abusive language, because such comments don't provide other members with useful information. In cases where we think the Feedback violates our policies, we will remove it.

So...what could be more honest then, when a member promises to pay but fails to, that it is recorded in their feedback?

Re: Why do sellers leave feedback for non paying bidders!

The person I am referring to has out of a 290 positive rating over 100 comments saying didn't pay. (I stopped counting at 100) One person left a comment saying 'why does this person have 100% positive when they don't pay. Well.......that is why! That's why I posted this in first place so mabey some people will see and realise just shouldn't do it. Also after this person bought items from me I actually sent them a second chance offer on a 3rd item they had bid on and lost (to another non paying bidder) I just saw the 100% rating of over 250 and didn't think twice. If it had of been someone with a low rating I would have checked their feedback before being so quick to send the second chance offer. They bought that straight away then placed bids on lots of other items. So then I checked and went, omg, that was a mistake.  And really, I don't think many of those people leaving the feedback are also giving them a strike, I mean seriously, if even half of that 100 were strikes, then the person would surely have been removed.

Rosa-b-eve all accounts that only buy items have 100% feedback whether they have had  no NPB strikes recorded or 1000 strikes recorded.

What would you be looking for when you checked their feedback???

surely not negative positives? and if so then why whinge that people leave them to quote skyhooks

Re: Why do sellers leave feedback for non paying bidders!

Yes well didn't mean the 100% bit so much as the 290 bit

(was about 250 at the time) Um, why would I have checked if it was low? I guess because 290 instills some sort of feeling of a reliable person and mabey something alot lower would make me want to get some sort of feeling of what to expect. But of course this person would have still had over 100 glowing comments. So yep, would have done absoulutly nothing to guide me. So, yes probally right, complaining is not really practical at all. Just human nature I guess. I guess it still comes back to thinking that most just left feedback without the strike. I just really really thought that lots and lots of strikes would have resulted in removal. I'm really amazed that this doesn't seem to be the case.  Well I have all the blocks in place now. Yes very silly of me not to have that in place before. So I did learn something at least.
