Why isn't ebay doing anything to stop ticket scalping?

I am disgusted to see the amount of people on here selling concert tickets, in particular, Rolling Stones tickets, for double, triple what they are worth.

I wasn't able to get tickets through Ticketek, and I can't afford to pay out my week's wage to see the Stones.  What these scalpers are getting away with is sickening and what's even worse is that Ebay is doing practically nothing to stop it.

LOL dats funny...

But personally I think concert tickets are waaaaaaaay to expensive.  Why anyone would even pay 2 or 3 hundred dollars baffles my brain.  It's a racket the music industry...

I have missed out on getting tickets to shows but I just accept I wasn't quick enough and either watch the whatever it was on TV or buy the DVD. CD, I don't line somebody else's pocket by paying more than face value as it is entertainment, it is not like you absolutely must have it to survive.

Saw the Stones back in the 60s, I reckon they will not be quite as active now lol.

Well since you've seen them in the 60's its probably why your original response was not very sympathetic towards those of us who have missed out.
I don't intend to line someone's pockets with large amounts of money to seem them either. I simply cannot afford it, like many other fans out there that have been rear ended because of these scalpers. There is no other way to describe it, its just plain Greed!

Also you don't miss out on tickets cause you aren't quick enough its because these people write programs to activate as soon as tickets are released, that takes up an entire allocation of seats, making it impossible for the average person to get their hands on them.

i would have thought all the OD tickets had been 'sold' last year.

When they were first available for sale; the time to buy them legitimately. it takes about 2 minutes to register with the major ticketing agents, which gets you not much spam and the opportunity to buy pre general release. Which is undoubtedly what the scalpers do.

Emma, I don't think that you are going to miss much. A bunch of geriatrics, well past their use by date (as rock musicians) who should have hung up their guitars years and years ago.

They were great in their prime, but they are long past it now.

Scalpers often get burned themselves, Last year, the Top Gear Festival in Sydney was a sellout. This year, the scalpers got their hands on a heap of tickets (probably got several friends to purchase as Ticketek has limits), and the show didn't sell out on either day. This is how stupid some of them are.....we'll buy some tickets and try and flog them off on ebay for a profit. We'll even auction them instead of a BIN price in case we make extra money from a bidding war. We'll let the auction run until 4 days after the entire event has finished. Then they wonder why no-one actually bid on their tickets. Some people who had auctions starting at the ticket price, still didn't get bids due to the auction finishing after the event was long gone. Are people really that stupid LOL?

If you want to get pre purchase date ticket offers, subscribe to sites like Ticketek (it's free and I don't recall ever getting spam from them, only offers). I often get emails offering pre sale tickets before they are opened to the general public. I also get messages on my Tel$tra prepaid phone with similar offers. Most don't interest me, so I post the message on my facebook for any friends that may be interested. Joining up to Ticketek and the like takes a few minutes so make sure you are a member before the tickets you want go on sale. Also make sure you are logged in BEFORE the tickets go on sale, allow 30 minutes because the minute they go on sale, the sites often crash and you can't log in. If you're already logged in, you have a better chance of beating others to it.

If the Stones isn't on for another few months, keep an eye on ebay because (genuine) people's plans change so they often sell their tickets on here. Most are happy to get their money back, so you can still get them for cost price. Also keep an eye on the classifieds in the newspaper for the same reason.
