Will this affect the resale value?

Hey everyone, I recently bought a bundle of 50 PS3 games to resell, unfortunately the seller did not disclose to me that he was a smoker, even after I asked what condition the games were in and whatnot.

The smell is not incredibly strong, but it is there enough to be noticeable. When disclosing this in my future listings, will this make people not want to pay as much for the item? I normally list the games I have for the price I want for them, so it is generally one or two bids at the end of the auction. Do you think this would be a big deal to most buyers?

And on another note is there any way to reduce the smell haha?

No need to start 2 threads & really think you're going a bit OTT.Just clean them.

The two threads are for entirely different purposes? One is for resale value (selling) and the other is for feedback (buying). Didn't think they would be suitable in the same category. And simply cleaning an item does not get rid of a smoke scent once it is all over an item, it might work after a short exposure to smoke, but when it has been in a smokey household it's a different story. How would you suggest cleaning them? Cheers

I think you should mention in your listing about smell of smoke.

And it might affect for selling if the games are PG games. But if you are selling MA games like Killzone or Rage I donโ€˜t think it does affect greatly. I donโ€˜t see big boys care about a game packet smells like smoke.

You can set the price you are happy with to start with. If you canโ€˜t sell and you need to re-list maybe you can reduce the price later.

I doubt that a smoker would notice that their games smell of smoke, and unless a buyer specifically asks for "smoke free" I think it is fair for the seller to just say they are in good working order regardless of how they smell.

I am allergic to many perfumes and citric based cleaning chemicals yet I can walk into a smoker's house and be fine. If I were purchasing second hand items the smell of smoke wouldn't worry me.

Unless a seller states that the item is from a smoke free home either in the listing or in communication then the buyer really should not complain.

I'm a smoker and in every one of my listings I include (in italics so that it stands out) the following:

"My items come from a home with over 200 non-smoking teddy bears, however their owner does smoke. Each item is aired outside before posting. If this is likely to offend you, please do not buy."

Unfortunately some buyers don't bother to read descriptions, much less TOS, however I can't make them read.  I might sell more if I didn't include the statement, however I know that some people object strongly to the smell of cigarette smoke, and it's my belief that one is best to be upfront:-)

It depends on whether Winfield was smoked or not. ๐Ÿ™‚

OP, we sometimes get stuff from clients that has been dry cleaned - but as it came from a smoking household we ALWAYS include it in the listing.

Never try to minimise it, we generally really drive the fact home, so to speak, just so that no one is ever in any doubt that it comes from smokers home.

We typically put the wording:

These people smoke, the whole family, including the kids. Smoke can be seen pouring out the windows when you aproach the house, you'd think the house was on fire.

In addittion, there are cats inside, wrapped just about on every sofa,  - they rule the roost!

Every item like this always gets sold, not a single one was ever "left on the shelf" so to speak.

You should be just fine with your items.

Best of luck.
