I thought Aus post was bad having the extra days during the Christmas/new year hols but I forgive them the Chinese New Year starts on the 7th until the 14th but it seems most Chinese manufacturers are already starting to party. I have spent the whole day trying to get some items I need but everyone is sending the same answers no items will be dispatched until after the hols 16th 😞 Looks like I may be taking a break to.

Australia Post had ONE extra day between Christmas and New Year...their annual industry Picnic Day.
Do you really begrudge them that after the busy runup to Christmas.
Do you make a big fuss when the banks and other financial institutions are closed for Bank Holiday but no-one else is on holiday?
Most industries have an annual Picnic Day in their awards and usually combine them with a weekend or other holiday period to maximise the time off. It never seems to cause the angst that the AP Picnic Day does.
Well clearly someone stole the jam out of your donut you seem to be having a bad day lol.

Well said Lyndal! My picnic day was on NYE this year (well, last year now), but it's not a set date. It's a day between Christmas and New Year when we are on down time and have skeleton staffing. Usually it's as you said, before a weekend, rather than plonked in the middle of the week with work days either side. It's always a bonus working that day. Public holiday rates for rostered hours, triple time for over time!

Well I know Aussie LOVE their EXTRA days off but I guess coming from England I was always happy getting my holidays and never expected any extra days to pad it out. Different cultures I suppose lol I can see the responses to this now

Most of my Chinese suppliers are pretty much out of commission for nearly a month around the New Year holidays (because of lead times on wholesale orders, primarily, and because factories shut down a little earlier than the 7th). Usually, I have to get orders in about 8-10 days before anything even starts, and if I order later than that, I can expect to wait for about a week after the break before the order is looked at.
It does seem to boost sales a little, though, as people look for alternatives to the Chinese retailers.

So how many Bank Holidays does the UK have? A few more than the one we have here I'll bet?
And if anyone wanted to steal the jam out of my donuts they would find slim pickings...I am diabetic and do't use jam.
Sorry if you find me a bit narky but I am really sick and tired of the AP bashing that goes on. There is plenty to complain about with AP but I don't think their ONE Picnic Day is one of them.

A lesson learned a little late for me I have been trying a fair few place the last few days seemed everyone closed shop this week, well the ones I need anyway. Did not think of the chaos caused by people communiting back home for the New Year I could not handle that I think I would rather stay and work and have the week after new year off 😉

well the uk has 7 this year compared to 9 in QLD (the state I am in) that does not include the picnic day (lol) and the fact the country comes to a stand still for the Melbourne cup. That extra day meant there was 4/5 days you could not post it is not a little thing as a matter of fact I am not bashing Aus Post I expect it from Aussie at the end of the day they will take a day of because it has a d in it. My post is I was shocked that china stopped trading a week before the New year. Aussie taking an EXTRA day no shock to me China doing it hell yes that shocks me.
I am diabetic to but I will still eat a donut with jam hell if I do not enjoy something I aint doing it

Are you confusing Bank Holidays with Public Holidays? Here in NSW we only have one Bank Holiday...in August.
I am not averse to breaking the diet occasionally either, but jam is not my vice of choice. I prefer home made lemon butter or a hot chocolate in the winter.

Not sure if the correct term is bank holiday or public holidays but the days where most things are closed. Thought of another one that was not posted on the list I looked at Ekka and that is on Wednesday in Brisbane yes I know Auspost does not take that one (at least I hope they do not) but no matter how you look at it Aussie LOVE the extra days off these extra days make it harder for business to function especially when it is taken by something you need to function like the postal service and during a time when that service is highly disrupted like at Christmas. As I say I come from the UK we do not get or expect extra days on top of the holidays yes we get annual holidays and a lot of people will use them to pad out things like Christmas and other times but that does not stop the company (in this case AusPost) functioning
As for th diabetes I am lucky I am not really into sweet things at all so mainly just have to watch out for the sugar content in things like sauces but usally I make mine from scratch so no problem
