Just saw this on news.com.au. A toilet paper hoarder wanting a refund on nearly 5000 toilet rolls because eBay refused to let him sell them. He also wanted to return over 100 bottles of hand sanitiser.

So for those thinking that eBay, or sellers, are profiteering due to toiler paper and sanitiser sales, they aren't. EBay put their foot down weeks ago.

I've found some hand sanitiser; an order which I made on 30th March just arrived yesterday.

I have another order on the way from a second source.

Let me know if you (or other posters here!) would like any details, as I'd be happy to send a PM.

I am so pleased that various non-traditional businesses are turning their hands to making hand sanitiser, but even more pleased that we have Australian manufacturers working together to 3D-print parts for ventilators, make PPE, etc. There's been some tremendous work behind the scenes, and if I think about that rather than about greedy profiteers, I will have a smile on my face rather than a sour scowl in contemplation of lightly roasting hoarders on a bed of crisp lettuce.

I hadn't heard of Drakes. We don't have them here. I just assumed it was one of the big supermarkets where they can return to any store, not necessarily where they bought it.

So do you think it might have been for publicity?

I saw someone trying to sell toilet paper at a market, but the public didn't take to it. He seemed to put most of it back in his car lol

I wouldn't buy it off the gougers no matter how desperate I was. I'd use newspaper before I'd support their slimy selfish profiteering. Well maybe not newspaper lol

They used to be branded as Foodland / IGA, which I think has stores nationally. Kind of known as the "indie" supermarket chain, I think as at least some of them are franchises (? not 100% sure on that, will have to add it to my google list, lol).

They can be quite different, at any rate - one of the ones near me specialises in imported goods and makes a lot of stuff in-house - they do these paprika and cheese sausages that are amazing, in that they're literally the only sausage I've ever enjoyed eating Smiley LOL but I digress... The other one is a bit more mainstream but still has better variety as unlike Coles / Woolies, they don't remove popular brands from the shelves and substitute them with their (usually) inferior own-brand stuff.

Anyway. The point I just spent two pointless paragraphs intending to make was... They're basically still a regular supermarket and you can typically return stuff bought at one to another under normal circumstances.

Sidenote: while a relatively large chain, they certainly haven't constantly been in the news like Coles / Woolies have, talking about new restrictions, having to hire thousands of staff etc, so I won't begrudge the effort even if it is a bit of an embellished tale - those sausages are darn good.

I had not heard of them either till I saw the report. I think they were based in SA & I live in Vic.

I really don't know if the story was 100% true or a bit of a taller tale for publicity, but it would seem odd to me that any hoarder would expect to take a large supply back and get their money back on this sort of item as that generally hasn't been a 'thing' you could do for weeks in most places. You'd have to have a front like Myers (as my mum used to say) to even try it.

Basically though, if I were a hoarder and couldn't sell on ebay or Amazon etc, I'd be trying out Facebook marketplace or some local buy/swap/sell etc at a somewhat lower price. One that seemed fair and could pass muster, wouldn't get me kicked off, but would still allow a slight profit margin.

Yeah it certainly seems suspect they would disclose Ebay stuff, but nonetheless might help turn the tide. Put them all into panic mode unloading stock, reducing prices, certainly no harm in it.

For those still struggling to find tp, try service stations or small shops. They quite often have a good supply. The servo where I saw a full shelf of it just this week is 24 hour also, so convenient for people still working

From what i have heard from my sister, some shops are starting to have a few supplies. It is still hit and miss in my area but I saw people yesterday leaving with some in their trolley. I didn't bother asking which shop as I scored some on Wed so no need.

I still have a good supply, bought 4 large packs when they were still allowing that, but I was down to my last roll at the time and had to fight the gouger idiots to get them. At the time, it was mayhem, lots of pushing and shoving, mostly by the idiot gougers adding to their stockpile. They are morally bankrupt. But anyway, although my son told me off for buying 4 packs, I didn't want to run out again

This is just the thing. When other people panic buy it sort of forces you to buy when you see the product, for fear of missing out again.

Our little local shopping centre has been very good, I have to say. I remember about a month or so back when Aldi still had the 4 limit, I was in there and saw some! This was not even at opening time, it was after that. People were walking past but not panic buying as such. They would take one pack, some took two. I took two and felt too embarrassed to take more. Later when i was walking down the same aisle doing my normal shop (I had done the toilet aisle first then gone back to the start) I saw a woman's eyes light up and she started walking quickly down towards it but a man and a woman were just putting the last 4 packs in their trolley. Had I been them, I would have given her one, it seemed mean. She didn't say anything, just turned around before she got all the way down.

I lived to regret not packing 4 in my trolley though. For starters I could have given that woman one, I still feel bad about her missing out. But more than that, it was hard for me to find any at all after that date and my 2 daughters were without any too, so we had to share out my stash.

Yes my family were all low at the time too

I offered some of mine to all of them but they managed to find some. I also have a nice couple next door who were down to their last few rolls, offered it to them also. Yes is does cause others to buy more. I'm nearly out of paper towels now. Wait for it, I'll be whining about that soon 😂
