I have had a bidder retract their bid on one of my auctions. They used the reason "incorrect amount bid" (or similar wording) and yet have not rebid in accordance with ebays rules. I notice they have also had 105 bid retractions in the last 12 months too. If I report them, will ebay do anything or are buyers a protected species these days?

personally I always prefer a retraction during an auction than a non payer for a week after an auction.
you would 'report' him for not following the rules, but as ebay give so few 'reasons' to retract many just pick one to get out of the bidding if they find they cant afford/ dont want the item after all
yes over 100 is a LOT, think you are lucky to not have to deal with that buyer.

Im not really sure that a bid retraction is better than a nonpaying bidder because of the affect it seems to have on other bidders and watchers. It really seems to spook them when something unsual like a retraction happens. I know when I am buying that I always get cautious when unsual things happen within an auction.

JMO but I'd report directly to Trust & Safety-105 bid retractions in 6 months is nuts

Looks like they bid the opening bid and then decided they didn't want to buy it.
Maybe they don't use their watch list or don't realize they have one.
They might have their My eBay page set at Purchase history and use it as a type of watch list instead,

Put them on your BBL and report. If they do not know that it should not be done, eBay will hopefully explain ๐

I'd say they are trying to see what the previous bidder's highest bid is ๐

There have been members who have come here to complain they have been suspended for a set time because they have as few as half a dozen withdrawn bids which they had perfectly sound reasons for doing but none of the standard ebay reasons really applied so they just picked the first one so yes it is worth reporting them, at the very least they may get a warning.

As you can see, they placed the first opening bid and then retracted 1hr 46 minutes and 5 seconds later.
The second/current bid was placed over 17 hours later.

I think I'd block them then move on.
After they found all the sellers were blocking them, they'd soon stop the games.
