Hi i started an item at 99c i saw this item from completed listing it would fetch anywhere from $200-$350.  The last couple of minutes i had 2 buyers go wild and it sold for nearly $300.  The buyer than emailed me saying he didnt bid that high and he isnt going to pay.  He said he only bid to $99 and that ebay placed the other bids or must of been hijacked for that last minute.  Very annoyed as i have lost a sale.  I have asked he could pay my fees to save him a non payer dispute.  But... if i send him a cancellation he could easily disagree and i would loose the fees and he can walk away to do this again.  But if i start a non payer dispute he can easily just neg me and forget any customer support on here it doesnt exist.  I sent a 2nd chance but of course i would be suss and think it was the seller bumping up the price.  And no this is not the id i sold the item on:-)  Im just thinking i should just start a non payer but... he sounds angry and wants to report to ebay.

No, of-course, his account was not hijacked;  he probably entered 999. instead of 99.9.  But if he would be stupid enough to report his account hijacked claiming he did not make the bid, it would be suspended and you could just sell to the underbidder at their highest bid.

PJ would tell the OP that she would be happy to call ebay & report the account as hijacked :^O

Winner is a space cadet if they think you are going to belive such rubbish-why didn't they just claim the cat did it,would make as much sense.

Normally I would have said open the dispute but as they have put in writing they do not want it if they declined the dispute all you would have to do is call ebay and they can see what the buyer has said and they would do it for you and credit back the fees.

And the under bidder may not want to wait the 8 days till the dipsute is closed.

It's a tough decision. I've bid one thing and won (or did a BIN, not entirely sure) and then decided that I didn't want it. I emailed the seller, said that I'm sorry and asked whether there would be any way to cancel my bid. They did, I didn't receive any dispute or anything and I am extremely grateful for that.

What was the amount of the other buyer's highest bid? If it was a reasonably high amount (e.g. over $200), then why not just let it go and sell it to the second highest bidder? One other thing you can do is, if the highest bidder and you are still on good terms, you can say:

"I was going to open a dispute but have decided not to. I have thought about it and decided that you don't have to pay as it's understandable if it was a genuine mistake. However, to get my fees back, I would need you to accept a Mutual Cancellation of the item. After you accept, that's all you need to do and we can both carry on as before. Please let me know if you'd like to accept this and I'll send it over."

It's paramount that you're both on good terms before doing this, because they can still give you a negative feedback even after accepting the Mutual Cancellation. Anyway, that's probably what I'd do. After you get them to accept, then you can relist or give a Second Chance Offer to the next bidder.
