buyer has not received item newbie hope i am not sending twice

Hi I know most of you will have seen or answered this question many times in different ways. Here is my problem the buyer bought an item on 26 Nov I posted on 27 Nov to NSW and it has not been received.

I asked the buyer to confirm address -  nada.

I asked the buyer to check with neighbours - nada

Eventually I said I would refund and the buyer said they wanted another piece of fabric as they were waiting for it to make a particular project.

Should I send more fabric?  - doing so will actually mean that I am at a real loss, I mean I should have put the fabric in the bin it would be cheaper.

I am relatively new at this and of course I realise that the fabric may be lost but it has nev er happened before and lets face it who would want to steal a piece of fabric out of someones letterbox.

I just posted ordinary mail and the fabric postage  was $1.80 . This was a $7.00 piece of fabric . Iif I offered tracking and registered mail no one would buy from me.  Obviously if a larger amount is purchased I would ensure  postage with tracking.

If you post via your post office and demand they print a label you will get tracking. They often do not like doing it but you can get it done.
Stamps nowadays offer no protection. My new post office is starting to get used to the new paypal way of doing business.

And also put a DO NOT SAFE DROP sticker on everything.

put a DO NOT SAFE DROP on everything, are you crazy?. I Live on acreage my driveway is nearly a km long if I order something it tells me if it needs a signature or not and I make suitable arrangements to recieve. I cannot hear postie from my house (they do not come up driveways) so I have a safe drop bin, but that little red sticker gets me a 70km round trip. not a happy little camper at all

Any tracking provided by a PO printeded label will not be sufficient for seller protection, like the tracking on red satchels and small parcels it only shows tracking to the nearest mail centre unless you pay extra for signature required.

I am sure if you sold the piece of fabric for $7 it cost you nothing like that amount so if you replaced you would only be out the cost to you, not the seven bucks the buyer paid.

I believe in good customer service so even if it was a loss I would have sent the replacement and I would have registered it to make sure the buyer got it and was happy.

That is how you build up a list of repeat buyers who are worth their weight in gold.

Being a mad crafter and buying heaps of fabric lately for projects I can tell you that AP has been terrible with items such as fabrics posted in envelopes.

There have been many complaints from craft group members that these envelopes with 'soft' items in them are being torn in AP sorting machines and are either arriving damaged or are missing the actual items . Lots have had the AP repair tape on them.

If by chance your sending fabric this way it could be a genuine case of it not being delivered because of the issues I just mentioned .

I know lots of us are now posting fabrics ( when sent as Letter rate mail) in the flat 15mm thick boxes ( come in different sizes) that safely contain letter rate items.

Sorry if none of this relates to your problem but as it aapears such a common issue lately maybe some people will find it helpful

I'm not for one moment suggesting that this is the case on this particular occasion, but I'm frequently astounded by sellers who fail to include return addresses on the backs of their envelopes / parcels, even on items for which I've paid in excess of $100.

If for some reason you wish to keep your home address private, then get a PO box, for goodness sake! Smiley Indifferent

It's been 10 working days since you posted.  Yes quite awhile, but some mail is taking all of that and more atm.

If this was my situation (and it has been a fair bit lately), I would ask the buyer if they would mind waiting until after the weekend, as for some odd reason, things seem to turn up on a Monday. Then if they hadn't received it, I would resend or refund - their choice... in this case resend.

I just had a large envelope item arrive one day short of 5 weeks from SA to NSW.  Fortunately, I had a lovely buyer who was prepared to wait to see if it was returned to me - I told her from the start that the last item I had returned took 5 weeks, and so she offered to wait to see if I got it back. Instead, she got it in 5 weeks.

If you are sending any item in an envelope then you need to make sure that the thickness of the envelope is equal to or thinner than the required size because the postal sorting machines spit out the envelope if it is the wrong thickness and sometimes causing damage to the envelope. But if you pay for an extra stamp to be put on the envelope then the envelope will get stamped manually by a worker and then put through the system.
