buyer says item not received.....

I sent a buyer an item they won about 2 weeks ago. Today the buyer opened a claim on Paypal without even emailing me stating the item hasn't arrived. With this item i offered free regular postage. As the item sent is classified as a "large letter" with Australia Post the post office places stamps on the envelope, therefore the post code of the item is not listed on the receipt. As the postcode is not on the receipt I do not have evidence the item was sent.
So what do I do? With Paypal protection will they instantly refund the money to the buyer?
With all my buyers I am very prompt with sending he items within 2 days of receiving payment. It upsets me that Australia Post failed to deliver this item to my buyer.
