Yes.
Is it sensible? Probably not as most bids on auctions happen in the last few minutes. In which case you may well not have won.

thanx Jim that sucks they wasted everyones time. i suppose its typical of a big business. BEWARE

Would you rather they continued with the listing and then didn't sell to the highest bdder as the item was no longer available?
If ebay did not allow items to be ended early, and this must be done with more than 12 hours to go, then the seller would not be able to do it.
How much time have you wasted, it doesn't take me more than a few seconds to place a bid!

I was in the same situation when I received a bid cancellation notice advising amongst other things that the item was no longer available.
I feel that that the merchant felt that the offers were too low (auction) or got a separate offer from other bidders in the auction.
I was the highest bidder with a maximum price set for the no reserve auction.
It SxxxxS!

a bid is simply an offer. an offer can be rejected at anytime prior to acceptance.
It's not like it is a new law or anything, It's been in force since 1828, so I don't undersdand why people are continually surprised or upset etc when their offer is rejected.
