combining postage after purchase

ok, had a guy buy 3 items overnight, has not paid as yet but i'm expecting a message for combined postage.

is there a way of working out combined postage acuratly after purchase?

or do i tell him to pay for the 3 items + postage, post them together, then refund the excess? this seems to me the easiest for me.

Re: combining postage after purchase

Just one point of warning. Make sure your measurements are accurate, I always go up to the next cm if it is even over by a millimetre. As for the weight, I make sure to be AT LEAST 10 grams below the allowed weight just to be on the safe side. (even though my scales weigh to within 1 gram) I do a final weighing when it is all taped and packed ready to go. The Post Office never check, just scan and give a receipt, but I do believe they do random checks along the way and if not correct your buyer will receive a big bill, and you will get a negative. So be careful. I do not trust AP's scales to always be as accurate as they claim. this is why I allow 10 grams as a leeway.

Re: combining postage after purchase

If postage is underpaid and there is a return address on the parcel, the seller will receive the bill, not the receiver of the parcel.

Why would you want to put yourself to this bother.? Just get it right the first time.

Re: combining postage after purchase

What bother am I putting myself to?   I was just telling you that the PO will bill the seller if there is a return address on an underpaid parcel.

Just for your information I am not a seller so I don't need to get anything right.

Re: combining postage after purchase

At least that's what's supposed to happen, but I have had a few customers send me a message that Aus Post held the package until the receiver came down and paid the difference.

I think they might do this because they are all franchises. If they send a bill the money is paid to Aust Post, not them.

Re: combining postage after purchase

So why should the money not go to Australia Post....they carried the parcel through their system on behalf of the sender who underpaid the postage.

It was not the franchisee who carried the parcel so why should they pocket the underpaid postage?

Re: combining postage after purchase

No do not do this.  I did this last night and now ebay will not refund partial refunds, only full refunds.  You need to combine purchases before they pay
