continue auction or take offer?

I have an item for auction and a bid is already placed on it, and I didn't include a

'buy it now price', Another person emails me to buy it outright for double the starting price what are my options. Can I accept that offer or does the auction have to continue till the end.

If there is a bid already I would feel bad for the person bidding. How many watchers does it have? I would leave it and hopefully the person who offers will bid.

Re: continue auction or take offer?

Once an auction has a bid, you're not able to edit it to add a buy it now price (if you had a BIN price before someone placed a bid, the option to Buy It Now disappears and it runs as a normal auction), so if you decided to accept the offer, your only option is to cancel the current bid and end the item, then relist it at the BIN price for the other buyer. The only other thing you can do with a current auction that has bids is end it early and sell it at the current price to the current bidder.

The choice is yours, I'm not sure what those bikes typically sell for, but just keep in mind that sometimes people will ask for a BIN price because they think it's going to go higher and they want to secure the item, and the current bidder may not be too happy about it (even though you aren't technically doing anything against the rules).

I am confused why, if the person wants it, they don't put in a bid with the reserve at double the price.

Then if that is the top bid, they would win it anyway.

If it isn't the top bid, you, the seller, would come out better off.

Exactly. There is rarely an upside for a seller ending an auction and relisting at an agreed price. Even if a purchase happens.

Re: continue auction or take offer?

I would have lost a lot of $ if I took all the offers I have received on my auctions.

I completely agree with digital ghost & davewill.

I also rely on repeat customers and wouldnt want to upset a bidder or people about to bid by ending an auction and accepting an agreed BIN price. It kinda defeats the entire purpose of an auction.

Good luck with whatever you decide, hope it works out in your favour!
