eBay Seller Account

Hi!,

I have a new account on eBay that I was building up and was going to use for my niche. However so far my feedback is still small. And due to me offering a refund to a customer through paypal directly and not through eBay (due to my lack of knowledge) I picked up a defect on this account.

However I am starting this business with my wife and she has an eBay account which I'm thinking of using for my imported products. I have a few Questions please if some one can answer.

1. My wife's eBay account has about 30 feedback but only 9 of those are from selling. The rest are from Buying. Will this effect anything if we choose to use this account to start our business?

2. I checked her Seller Dashboard and her rating is above standard.

- No defect rating

- Looks all good

3. In her inbox I noticed that a customer won an item from auction over 3 months ago and the winning bidder messaged my wife to pick it up and my wife forgot about it and never replied to the purchaser, but they nevery left negative feedback, or opened up a dispute claim.

Also in the selling/Sold tab there is nothing showing as not sent, etc, as the listing was more than 60 days ago.

4. Can the buyer still leave negative feedback for this listing? Can they still open a dispute? Should I contact the buyer and offer them compensation for this? Or just let it go?

I know my wife has been a bit careless with this account but she's new to eBay and I want to take over it and offer exceptional customer service and treat it very professionally.

Is there anything I've listed to stop me from using this account as strictly for selling? Thank you.

Kind Regards,

I can't see any problems using the account for selliing. You can also easily change the User ID to reflect whatever you're selling as well.

If the sale that was not followed through on is over 90 days ago it is now too old for anything to happen re; feedback etc.

You might be limited as to the quantities you can initially sell & subject to the PayPal 21 day hold on funds (like any new account now is).

You cand find out your seller limits (but I'm not sure where on the site that info is as it does not apply to me as I opened my account 14 years ago when limits did not apply).

Hi thanks for the reply.

At the moment my selling limit is 100 listings per month, I might ask eBay for a lifting of the limits next month.

So having a lot of buyer feedback doesn't effect my selling account in any way?

Regards,

Did the buyer pay for the item through paypal?  If they did they have up to 6 months to open a dispute.

But they cannot leave any feedback so there would be nothing showing on your public record of the problem.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. On eBay I can't see anything because it's been more than 60 days. I will check my paypal now. It's lucky that the customer didnt leave negative feedback or open disupute.

But that is my point....if they paid with paypal they have 6 months to open a dispute.

Hi, they never made a payment. It was a large item so it was probably COD. I checked paypal statements and nothing showing.

In that case you have nothing to worry about.

It is a good chance that they changed their mind and never intended to pick it up.

One other thing to think about.....if any of your accounts are suspended then all of your accounts will be suspended whether they are in your name or your wife's name.   If you are listing on your wife's account there would be no way you could argue that it was not you account.

There are also tax implications in the future.....if it is going to be a business account then the income will be in your wife's name but if the paypal account is in your name then it will show income in your name.

I would sugggest you have a talk with an accountant to sort out these issues.

Thank you very much Lyndal for your help.

Yes, I'm aware eBay will link accounts just from using the same router (ip address)...

Yes, I'm trying to be very professional and offer great customer service to keep the accounts in good standing...

Unfortunately great customer service is not everything on ebay these days.

This awful defect system has too much impact when it is often out of the seller's control.

Good luck....and come to the boards if you need any more help.  There are a lot of vey experienced members here who will help you.
