eBay's Buyer Protection works in strange ways

A buyer bought two items from me in May and asked for the items to be sent in the one parcel which was fine by me.

However the parcel was not delivered, AP stating the address was "unknown" even though the buyer had been there many years. Nevertheless as it was undelivered the buyer opened an case in the Resolution Centre - in fact she opened two cases in the Resolution Centre as it was for two seperate auctions.

So 4 or 5 weeks later I get a message from eBay sayng one of the cases was finalised in my favour (and the buyer therefore ends up out of pocket). However this week I have been advised by eBay that the other case was finalised in the buyer's favour with the following comment:

"As described in the eBay Buyer Protection program, the refund includes the purchase price, plus original postage. This amount will be deducted from your PayPal account".

I don't know if anyone can make any sense of this - two items sent in the one parcel, two cases opened and with two different results.

If the buyer purchases and pays for the items separately, you must post them separately to be covered by buyer protection, as they are two separate transactions and payments, and each needs a separate tracking number.  Because you combined them, you only had one tracking number and you can't use the same number for two separate disputes.  If she had waited for you to combine and made one payment it is then considered one transaction and you would be covered.

If AP couldn't deliver it why haven't you got it back? I would be on to AP with a complaint if they have lost it rather than returned it.

If you used ebay labels or click & send it won't usually let you print an invalid address so worth checking that they didn't just get it wrong and the address was fine.

As said there is nothing you can do re ebay as you sent together however I would be trying to get my money back from AP.

AP were unable to trace the satchel even though it went to a legit address. They did however send me a Money Order for the replacement cost of the satchel - which is the limit of AP's liability.

The two items the buyer bought were paid for at the same time and shipped in the one parcel hence my puzzlement over the result of the claims.

If they were paid for on a single invoice call ebay and keep on at them until they see the error of their ways.

As for AP they say thaty is the limit of their responsibility but a complaint to the postal ombudsman sometimes concentrates their minds and has them refuunding the item cost f they have clearly lost it.
