ebay chases 5 cent fee from dead seller

After the death of my Mum, we the Family kept getting all sorts of things ( and still do ) for years in the mail & even the odd phone call. With things all done by Computer these days, one would just expect it to stop, but alas, it continues.  Would have thought that after the poor woman contacted them personally & even had the Dearth Certificate, that would have been enough.   I wonder if she paid them their 5c. 🙂

While this shouldn't happen it is not unusual and had it been me I would have just sent in payment by an old fashioned cheque, one for each, so it would probably cost ebay more than they were getting to process the payments.

It is also true that if they had said they would waive the charges then ebay should have stopped the auto emails but what if the bills had been for hundreds of dollars? Are ebay not entitled to payment out of the deceased's estate the same as the estate would be liable for any other goods or services that were owing at the time of death.

I know I will get jumped on for saying this but I hardly think something that happens all the time in this computer, automated age is news worthy.

It's not only the automated system that is at fault here, it's the procedure taken by the reps and to be able to overide the system,  and the software which sends out an email demanding a 5 cent bill, some companies have a dollar threshold amount, ebay chases everything it can get it's hands on. This situation only got resolved when the press got a hold of it.

Does ebay suddenly sprout a brain under certain situations?

Have to agree phorum, hardly a News Worthy article IMO also. Happens millions of times daily.

Auto-generated letters and emails!

My dad still reccieves special promotion letters from his favourite Holden dealer.

Dad's been gone over 18 years!

I gave up informing them after the first 6 or 7 letters! Maybe they'll offer him a freebie soon, and I can cash in!
