fixed postage cost question - i need help!! :)

I always fix the postage cost as sometimes I put items on cheaper and make it up with the postage fees. (sometimes I lose money on postage too by the way)

I have never had one complaint until now, buyer is saying it only cost $2.50 to post item (I have the receipt and it actually cost $14.30 to post item) and they want a refund? The postage price was fixed in the auction so as far as I am concerned they agreed to the total price so they pay it - end of story.

Is that correct?

the fixed cost I charged in auction was $17.00 and I guessed the actual postage anyway and put that.

fixed cost means fixed cost correct?

Technically, you shouldn't really be doing that.... But in regards to your buyer, they have no basis at all to request a refund on postage costs. A $2.70 "deficit" to actual stamp cost is nothing to get up in arms about, and that's not accounting for any packaging costs. If that's what's got your buyer hot under the collar, a polite, brief message explaining that postage price was clearly displayed, and it included all costs incurred to package and send their item safely.

Perhaps your buyer has messaged the wrong seller, it happens from time to time and (going from your OP) they seem to be under the impression that the stamp cost of the item you sent them was $2.50 (not actually possible, though, letter rates are $3.00 and under, but the next lowest is $1.80), or maybe they've allowed 70c for an envelope or something... o_O

Well that's a bit naughty and against eBay Policy, so I probably wouldn't admit to that on eBay's public forum, eh? (sometimes I lose money on postage too by the way) eBay won't worry about that, or take it into consideration.

I have never had one complaint until now, well at least one customer has dinged your stars... buyer is saying it only cost $2.50 How did they arrive at that conclusion? to post item (I have the receipt and it actually cost $14.30 to post item) and they want a refund? The postage price was fixed in the auction so as far as I am concerned they agreed to the total price so they pay it - end of story. mmmmm not really, see postage policy, but in this case, I reckon you're safe, I don't think that a $2.70 handling fee is too excessive and should be ok...

Is that correct?

Unless an item requires a lot of packaging and a lot of time to do it $2.70 does seem to be a bit OTT. I pack very carefully with tissue paper, ziplock bag, click & send satchel, compliments card and printer ink for the label and I only add a dolar to the actual postage cost.

If you want to avoid complaints include the price in the item and offer free postage.

Like tstore said, send them proof of the actual postage cost. Maybe it can cost $2.50 by sending it a different way but if you paid "such and such" cost and it's pretty close to the cost in your listing, then they don't have much to complain about. If you did pay a few dollars less than the listing says, why not refund them a few bucks? Once they have proof of how much it cost and a little refund, they might be a bit happier.
