posted a vintage fragrance item, (after shave cologne), which was still packaged in its box within australia, posted as a parcel not in a satchel, so did not sign the flammable goods part of the satchel.
packaged securely within correcgated cardboard and then within 2 polystyrene trays. item very snug and protected.
buyer emails to say it arrived soggy and maybe the seal was broken.
when it left me it was still packaged the bottle inside its origiinal cardboard packaging inside its cellophane wrap. it was a 1970s issue, never opened
I totally appreciate the inconvenience if this has arrived as they describe. I asked them to send a couple of photos but they haven't as yet. i also advised to take the item to their GPO with all the packaging and fill out a green complaint form. the item was marked with fragile tape too, i'm aware some people believe thats like a red flag to a bull with aust post, but the alternative is not to write anything!
what can I do?

Marking the package as fragile / handle with care or whatever is straight out common sense and common courtesy.
If it's used a a football or a Frisbee it's out of you control, those who are gullible enough to think that fragile items come in for special rough treatment are likely to be the ones to carry out such and act.
I post approx 20 / 30 fragile items per week always marked , in the last 5 or so years since i've been doing mail order full time i have had ZERO complaints about broken item's.
If you don't bother to mark it, don't bother to moan about it if it gets broken, not hard to work out.

I didn't suggest for a minute that items marked as fragile get used as footballs. All I said is, they don't receive any special treatment. They are treated exactly the same as all the other parcels. Most of my items are fragile and in 5 years of posting fragile items, never marked as fragile, I've never had a breakage. My items are packed well enough to withstand everything except getting run over by the delivery truck. If you've never had a breakage it's because you know how to pack fragile items well enough to withstand normal AP handling, NOT because you put fragile stickers on it.

Yes i have enough common sense to protect what people have spent hard earned money to buy, if you don't believe that spending a few cents and and extra 20 seconds on marking the items then that's your call.
I would much prefer to be shown to care about my customers item(s).
You don't have to be real smart to work that out.

Nothing leaves my place without 'fragile' stickers top and all 4 sides. Wouldn't be without it.
As you said RMP, it doesn't take long or cost much, but buyer perception of how you/me have handled their items gets a lot of ticks.
