If you watch it closely you will see the sorting boxes.....they are lobbing the parcels in the boxes regarding weight and size etc with larger parcels being thrown to a packer.

I did watch closely, and I noticed a parcel ricochet off the back wall of the truck & return back to the sorter that threw it. I wonder what sorting box he was carefully attempting to lob that one into. lol

a local aussie post employee told me not to bother with a fragile label (even though they sell them by the roll) as they have no impact because aussie post do not provide fragile handling.

I come across that all the time, as I always cover my parcels containing breakables with fragile stickers. The manager/proprietor at my first choice PO is the only AP rep I've yet to meet that's actually pragmatic about it & agrees you should put fragile on the parcel. The others are merely towing the corporate line that they don't have a fragile service on the grounds that they handle all packages with the utmost of care thus rendering a fragile service & fragile stickers redundant and unneccesary. From APs pov, for them to offer a fragile service is to admit that they don't always handle every package with the utmost care, which they refuse to admit to.

It's the same as APs estimates for delivery, they give the minimal (best case scenario) times for delivery, which very often bears no resemblance to the realistic/actual times it usually takes in practice between some areas (especially rural/regional to interstate rural/regional). Personally I believe their logic is flawed by their unrealistically raising customer expectations only to then very often fail to meet those expectations... surely they would have more happy customers if they exceeded expectations instead of dissappointing them. But to be fair to AP it's not a trait unique to them, most big business/corporations do the same (governments too for that matter).

I have always been told to never mark anything fragile as it just encourages them to see if they can break it

I have a few friends that used to work for local courier companies and they pretty much said the same thing. Anything marked fragile, they play soccer with to see just how fragile it is!

I bought an expensive microscope from the US last year that came via the GSP. It had no mention of fragile on it at all. There is plenty of fragile parts, lenses and what not and there was absolutely no damage to anything, even the box.

I bought some crockery a couple of years ago off eBay and it was packed really well. 2 pieces were broken.....directly under the dirty boot print that was on the bottom of the box. It had fragile tape all over it.

The " process" to get parcels from one container into a truck is just inappropriate.

Airports / warehouses etc have suitable equipment and processes to do this type of job in far more efficient and safer ways, with signficantly less risk to worker and to goods involved.

The physical space that higgledy-piggledy piles also takes up compared to a neat stack makes a mockery of any cubing that is added to freight cost also.

I am glad to see that they USED to work for local courier companies.....in my experience they would play soccer with a parcel just once and then would be out of a job.

They all left of their own accord, but they saw quite a few people come and go rather quickly. Usually due to deliberate mishandling of freight.

My husband's a line haul driver and he loads his own truck now because he got sick of getting part way home and having to stop and repack everything. Things would be just thrown on willy nilly and would cause all sorts of issues with movement in the back of the truck. He's very particular about how the truck is loaded. He does carry a lot of mail freight (parcels) and is ana1 about them. He's pulled quite a few of the younger ones in the depot up for mishandling freight. They don't play soccer with it, but they aren't gentle with it either.

My OH's a courier....he takes the parcels/letters that have been delivered to the depot by the line haul drivers....next step in the delivery chain.

I would say if the packers are mishandling the freight it comes back to lack of good supervision in the depot itself.

Other minerals I've bought have come from Pakistan, who wrap and pack the same (except their toilet paper is hot pink!), Turkey, Slovakia and a few other countries around that area and they are all packed the same. Seems toilet paper and lots of tape seems to work wonders!

I am now feeling extremely ripped off.  I want this toilet paper.
