Hi
I had a query about listings I have, the buyer wanted me to ring them... I must say alarm bells went off, I didn't ring but endeavoured to answer their questions via email...
Anyone else had similiar experiences...

No, i had not and if they did, I would ask them to communicate through eBay messages only, if they insist I would have nothing to do with them = straight on my blocked list. If they pester, I would report their messages through the report link.

Do you have pickup items listed on whatever id you're selling on?

Even if it is a pick up, only give them phone number after they bought it.

Makes no difference if they are pick up or not. I always get buyers wanting me to phone them, and I usually just send a short but polite message replying to their query and not giving them my phone number. If they want the "personal" buying experience, then they should go to a shop (And pay more for the rent, staff and phone bills included in the cost of the item).
i think a lot of buyers don't realise that ebay is a worldwide marketplace and that just because they live in the next suburb or the same city that you will approach it differently. You wouldn't call a buyer in the Netherlands, nor would they ask !
Just a short message, explaining ebay is an online business and its usually much more convenient to contact via email ..
Of course arranging for a pick up might be different, or making a time to view an item if you allow that might be an exception. That's up to your own choice. I'd text or phone (but usually text) someone in that case - and my mobile has the number blocked.
might think that's harsh, well maybe so, but if you've had unannounced buyers on a Sunday arvo, or phone calls at 10pm .. Well lets say I am now older and wiser !

??? Heaps of pickup items have the sellers number in the listing & its usually a mobile. There are literally millions of sellers on ebay with their numbers in their listings also.
Maybe a prospective bidder would like to look at the item before bidding & doesn't want to phone a mobile number due to the cost.

If memory serves me correctly, all someone has to do to find your phone number is bid on your item and then make a request for seller's details.

Newsflash - when you send a text message, your phone number gets sent with the message regardless of whether your number is blocked or not.

I think of buying and selling on ebay as an internet business transaction and as such don't want to receive or make phone calls, I want everything to be via email.
If I want to buy and sell over the phone then I would stick to the local newspaper.

As far as I know to be able to get details for another member you need to have a transaction; bid is not a transaction; it only becomes a transaction once you win.
