I sold an item and it has come up on ebay as payed through paypal but there is no payment in paypal. Buyer said sent payment through paypal, and i have had no email of instant payment, this has never happened before any help would be helpfull cheers Neill.

Yes this happens quite a lot, usually the reason is that the seller has made a typo or used a relist when the email address was not the same so there is no account to receive it.

Check your listing and if it is what has happened then what you do next depends on which error. If it is an old email address that used to be linked to Paypal then you can ring them and they will direct the payment to the correct account.

If it was a typo then all you can do is apologise to the buyer and ask them to cancel the payment then you can send them a Paypal invoice for the amount owed.

I dont understand how this happened i have the same email and paypal for years with no problems is the buyer at fault???

Check the payment status in eBay - has checkout been completed (i.e. the cart and dollar icons are filled in)? If it has, the email address the payment was sent to can be viewed if you hover over the $ icon. 

A few sellers have been experiencing glitches with PayPal the last few days, including payments not showing up for a while, so if the buyer has paid and to the correct address, it might be another glitch, usually temporary - a call to PayPal may help get it sorted faster.

Sorry - just reread your OP and realised it is showing as paid on eBay - you can still check the address the payment was sent to, just to make sure whether the correct one was used in the listing.

Thanks DG yes it was payed into my wifes A/C paypal and with a different email, how do i make sure this dosn't happen again cheers Neill.

The only real way is to double-check the email address in the listing form before submitting it. By default, when you create a new listing on eBay, the PayPal address will usually be filled in with the last address used to list an item (I say usually, because a couple of different things can affect which address is filled in, including - unfortunately - random eBay glitches, plus using 'sell similar' or 'relist', in those cases it will copy info from that listing). Every so often, it does seem to be filled in with an older or different address, so chances are that at one point, a listing was created with payment directed to the other account address.
