need opinions, brand new buyer, should i shell out for sign on delivery myself?

$160 item, brand new seller that signed up today, paid the cheaper shipping option with tracking but no sign on delivery, should i pay the extra myself just in case?

i have nothing against buyers, new or old, i have sold well over 100 items now with no issues what so ever, but we've all heard the stories!

i guess the real question is, is tracking enough protection for sellers when it comes to paypal and ebay?

thanks for reading 🙂

Always, always, lodge them over the counter and get a receipt.

Sometimes they can reach their final destination without ever being scanned.

I had one turn up that was never scanned.

Seller was lucky.        I could've claimed INR if I wanted to

That's how I got suspended from selling,I sent items with tracking only and buyers claimed they never received the items.

I always used to send SOD but then gave the option to the buyers of both, which I realized when I got suspended was the biggest

mistake I ever did,so don't risk sending all high value items without SOD.

If there is a scan somewhere along the way then yes that will become your proof of postage.
But the most likely scenario is that the only scan will be at delivery. So if the package is lost then obviously the delivery scan never happens and you are left without any proof you ever mailed it.

i wouldn't so much say the seller was lucky, more that you're a decent human being 🙂

aus post gets a lot of flak, but so far i have had no issues with them that has resulted in a loss for me. scammers are around, but i have been lucky enough to have yet to encounter one.

i am a small seller, but of the 100+ packages i have sent none have gone missing and i have had no INRs, i had one 'damaged' but it was most likely my own fault. tracking has been almost perfect if slow and with scans missing at times, i had one that somehow scanned in the wrong state, but the buyer got in contact with me and the item arrived fine, i also had another item that was never scanned as delivered, but again the buyer left me feedback so i knew it got there.

i don't doubt that i will get burned at some point, but there's really only so much you can do, you just have to roll with it.

I send eBay satchels, and have never lodged them over the counter.

True, there is a chance that they can get lost in the system without having a scan event, but luckily this has never happened to me.

In the past 12 months I've probably sent 50 eBay items via the red post boxes, perhaps 40 earn a tracking event within 24 hours, the rest within 48 hours, or maybe 72 hours if it's over a weekend. There was one exception which went missing for at least a week , but then a tracking event appeared on the day of delivery.

Based on my experience I would say it is ok to post low value tracking items via the red boxes, with any higher valued items lodged at the counter (what counts as low value may be different for each person, and I guess is the amount you are prepared to loose without too much worry).

The main reason I post in the red post boxes is because it maybe 5 or more days before I can make it to a post office to lodge over the counter.
