Hi there,
I apoligise if this has been brought up before, I've had a quick look through here but couldn't see anything. I have just previewed the new store layout that eventually we are all going to be switched to but store categories aren't there. There are featured items at the top but I need categories as well. Is this something I have to add after I changeover or are they gone? Thanks in advance...

I won't be switching until I have to. Can't customize it very much to make it your own and it's what I pay store fees for. You still should see categories down the left hand side.

I updated to the new store design a while ago, and my store categories are still visible, both on the store pages and listing pages (TBH I can't remember if I had to go back into Manage My Store and reset it to put the categories on listing pages [Listing Frame options], but they should be on store pages regardless).
The two main things I don't like, one particularly regarding categories, is that I can't seem to get the second level to display anymore, only the top level. The sub categories were quite important to me, but as I sell a few different types of things, I don't want 50 top level categories. 😕
The other thing was losing my custom pages (I had three all up), so anyone who has any should consider that before switching (eBay say the pages may be reintroduced, but who knows when and/or how - one of mine can be translated to a guide, the other two I'll just have to find another place for).

Don't change unless/until you have to.

In my case, I decided there wasn't much point in delaying the inevitable, plus, I don't want to put work into aesthetics if they're only going to be temporary, so decided to work with what I could. The main categories still show, and the sub categories also show if someone clicks to go into the main category, I just would have preferred to show on the store home page what kinds of items are in my sub-categories...
I will say it hasn't affected my sales at all, at least not negatively, which was a bit of a surprise because in one of my categories (craft supplies), browsing and multiple item purchases is kind of part & parcel, so would have thought more comprehensive categories being visible straight off the bat would help a lot, but all the navigation and search bar etc is still there, so I guess people know how to find the stuff they want easily enough, still. 😄
