AS OF TUESDAY 1ST MAY EBAY HAS SCRAPPED THE
"ADD SECOND CATEGORY TO REACH MORE BUYERS" OPTION.
NOW WHEN SELLERS HAVE AN ODD ITEM THAT DOESNT REALLY SUIT ANY PARTICULAR EXISTING CATEGORY, THEY NO LONGER HAVE THE OPTION TO LIST IN MORE THAN ONE CATEGORY.
THIS MEANS LESS PAGE VISITS, LESS WATCHERS AND LESS SALES.
FOR BUYERS THIS MEANS LESS BROWSING, AND LESS SURPRISE ITEMS THAT YOU WOULD NOT NORMALLY SEARCH FOR, BUT LOVE AND BUY NONE THE LESS WHEN YOU COME ACROSS THEM BY ACCIDENT!
LESS FREEDOM OF CHOICE.
THIS AFFECTS US ALL
PLEASE CONTACT EBAY BY EMAIL AND PHONE TO LET THEM KNOW THEIR MISTAKE!
CLICK ON CUSTOMER SUPPORT TAB TOP RIGHT OF PAGE, THEN CONTACT EBAY.
REMOVING THE ADD SECOND CATEGORY TO REACH MORE BUYERS TAB IS A
GIANT LEAP BACKWARDS
WHAT MAY THEY DO NEXT....

anyway, ebay i love you, you help me buy and sell all round the world, lets not fight, i just want to get along, i thought the more sales gained though multiple category listings was working well for both of us, the more i sell the more fees you get, but you are so big, and i am so small, your other humble disciples point out that, yay, ebay works in mysterious ways, it is not for us to question its divine development team.
so ebay i offer you a holy sacrifice - my profit. ill sell less items.
i also promise never to wade through the mire of your forums ever again.
i dont think my sanity would take it.
peace.
wrongatron.
Good heavens :O:O

Guys, the OP was putting his thought's out there, for the most part others understood, and while some do flout eBays rules, I don't think the OP is one of them, nor did he deserve the dressing down he later got (and the possible reporting of an item) from someone on the boards here. Way harsh guy's.

I don't use the 2nd category listing very much if at all, but I do get what wrongatron was banging on about. I list in one category and if after 2 or 3 days I don't have much interest happening / lookers, I revise and change categories. That could be a solution to wrongatron EXCEPT if he /she lists heaps of items at once.. it would be a pain and time to scroll thru and see which could do with a change of category..
cheers and Good Luck to all.

ZENREMIX777 ...I dont think you see the whole picture here. Whats the point of my getting 200 free listings when auctions are a minimum cost of $1.50 and sales are down by 95% due to their other changes. As a "casual seller" you may think this looks great but I have been making a living here and thats now over! But I guess your right. Ebay has not self terminated...It has just terminated small Australian business.......Anyway enough said Im off to continue moving all my items to the Australian auction site which we are not allowed to name here.

Hi all,
I've recently opened a basic store. I have a bunch of almost vintage IBM PC Joysticks to sell. It is a multiple quantity listing, good til cancelled, so I expect the listing to be up on ebay for a few months at least. I have them listed in Vintage Computers -> Vintage Parts and Accessories.
Today I decided I was going to add them to a second category to increase exposure and ultimately start selling them quicker - Video Games -> Accessories -> Controllers. However, it seems the sell form keeps removing it when I click Continue.
So I'm guessing this is the same issue as OP and just wanted to say that I too am slightly disappointed by this change. Just thought I'd share my opinion.
Also wondering now, could I just make a second listing for the same item in a different category? Or would this somehow violate eBay policy? Thanks all, happy eBaying. 🙂

Well, as an ebay buyer only, I can see why they have done this. You only need to search 'Antiques/Decorative Arts" to see why.
Soooo many sellers listing in here with their obviously brand new rubbish when it should be listed elsewhere.
Buyers truly get sick of wading through page after page of items that do not belong in a particular category.
So sellers, pick a single category that best fits your item, please...

Can't argue with that except to test how your auctions work as BIN? Or create a new account for free auction listing. Maybe bundle up alot of items and sell them as lots for cheaper postage with potentially higher interest. Dunno... but you've probably thought of all of those things.

you should probably take a look at the duplicate listings policy
