Sorry bake, I do not have a smart phone....just a cheapie that makes calls only. I have no occasion to need anything more.
We DID have a digital phone until my OH managed to break it and I have not done anything about replacing it yet.
BTW the number was .139.....note the dot in front of the number

Just to ensure there are no assumptions being made, it would be worth asking AP staff if paying for PPA (postage paid Australia) mail of this type COULD in fact be dealt with over the counter. Seeing as we can purchase a pre-inked stamp and stamp any item we like (perhaps even using pre used envelopes), then deliver these items over the counter AND pay for postage ......... This seller may be doing this. However, it would be good to identify with AP if there must be a return address on each item. Either way, this person must have an AP business account.
And I know that is far fetched, but I just want to ensure everyone is looking at all possibilities because it seems now with AP there ARE endless possibilities.
Cathy, there is a return address on each envelope....Sydney Water's PO Box address in Parramatta. It is on the back and has not been crossed out....in fact it is under the sticky tape that was used to close the envelope.
Neither that address nor the Sydney Water logo on the front of the envelope has been crossed out in any way.
I take your suggestion on board and will get my husband to take the envelope complete with contents into one of the post offices in the Sydney CBD tomorrow and see what they have to say. I might even persuade him to get a second opinion as he usually visits several POs in the course of his day.
I will also check out the Mail Room theory, but I am pretty sure that is not an option either. Most of the mail rooms he visits only sort the mail into which company or floor of the building they have to go to....they do not open the mail, although I am sure there must be some mail rooms that do open the mail.
However, Sydney Water mail does not go to the tenants of the building.....it would go to the owners of the building who are not necessarily tenants of said building.

My items arrive in a used envelope too, but had a window where the return address would have been, with a blank sticker over. It was a printed ex business envelope, with postage paid printed on it, which only a registered business could use in the first place, and not reused. My PO looked at it and said it was wrong, but unless there was a company printed on it, nothing could be done. A cottage industry opening envelopes, and blanking off the windows??? The items were worth a $1, as was the interest this has created. So nice to see honest people are against someone ripping off even austpost. At least that is good news.
