Hi, loving this discussion forum! I have noticed that it is recommended that a purchaser pay cash when they collect an item that has been advertised as pick up only. why is this recommended? I thought that if you ask for payment first you would guarantee that a purchaser actually shows up to collect. Is this not the case? I've been using Ebay for years now, but feel that I have only scratched the surface when it comes to so many 'correct ways' of doing things. I enjoy Ebay enormously, even though I really only ever deal in quite small items. I have 'met' the most delightful people in my time and have had only a handful of purchasers that have proved difficult. Anyway, I am always open to learning, and gosh, some of you out there are amazing with your knowledge!! Thank you for all of your help.

The information that you posted has since changed. The link https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full?locale.x=en-AU#Schedule_1_PayPal_Seller_and... is still good, but the cut and paste from the page that loads is now superseded by the following cut and paste from the page dated July 22nd 2014 (I have not cut and pasted the entire sections, just the bits that may shed light on PayPal protection, or lack thereof, for pickup items):
11.5 Items/transactions not eligible for PayPal Seller protection. The following are examples of items/transactions not eligible for PayPal Seller protection.
13.3 Ineligible Items. PayPal Purchase Protection only applies to PayPal payments for certain tangible, physical goods. Payments for the following are not eligible for reimbursement under PayPal Purchase Protection:
- Items which you collect in person or arrange to be collected on your behalf, including items bought through In-Store Checkout at the retail point of sale

Accepting payment before pick-up certainly DOES NOT GUANANTEE your custumer will pick-up when you expect. I had a customer pay for an expensive clock a few years back and he was suppose to collect within the month as he was coming up from Melbourne. Well, he didn't come up within the month. It took him 18 months to collect which is why I point blankly refuse to take any form of pre-payment on pick-up only items. If they don't collect and haven't paid at least I can relist and I'm not hung up on legal issues. Paypal and Ebay have no right to insist on Paypal for pick-up only items. Do so at your own risk!!

Hello
Can someone help me?
I just sold a iPad on Ebay, it was up for auction and I set it up as Paypal for payment and will use postage for shipping but the buyer has sent me a message saying he wants to local pick up even if I never listed as pick up
any tips on what I should do?

You can either let him pick it up, you deliver it, or you can post it if you're not comfortable meeting a buyer. If you are happy to let them come and pick it up, cash payment is better as you don't pay PayPal fees. Plus, there is no protection for pick up items and there's always a chance if the make their payment using a credit card, they could do a chargeback, meaning you lose both the money and the ipad.
If you are happy to let them pick up, send a new invoice and remove the postage cost, otherwise you will pay fees on the postage amount. When you change the postage cost to 0.00 DO NOT hit recalculate, otherwise that will reset the invoice back to how it was originally.

To send invoice, Do I click on that invoice button next to the item that I just sold?

Yep! Just click send invoice, then change the amount in the postage box to 0.00. DO NOT hit recalculate. You can alter the dropdown to show local pick up if you like. Then send the invoice. Make sure you tick the box to send a copy to your email so you know it has sent OK.
