photo policy change

photo policy change , seems like it is never ending now we have to change photos to suit ebay policys all my pictures have been taken by myself and made smaller to allow them to be uploaded , when there to big they will not upload

all my pictures have been fine for years , they have told me I have over 340 lots with pictures that do not meet there currently policy size

do they realise how much work is invoived to re do all of these

gee when are they going to stop making rediculess changes

it is back enough with all the changes they have made in the last 6 months like most Australian sellers we are down well over 30% of sales in the last 3 months

does anybody know what changes they expect with photo's and what happens if they do not get upgraded

The information is very confused, and IMO the timetable misleading.

I have not been too concerned as I avoid directly listing from ebay or using turbo lister to list, so subscribe to inkfrog and the requirements do not yet apply to photos hosted through a third party application.

FACT SHEET 12. I use a third party application to upload my pictures. Will I be impacted?

Not yet.  However, in 2014, photos uploaded, revised or relisted using third party tools will need to meet the minimum picture quality requirements

If the policy is in force its certainly not being policed.  Plenty of items with borders and text on them.  Listing an item the other day using Turbo Lister and a search using the barcode brought up a stock photo from a competitor with their ID plastered across the image.  Yeah going to use that in my sale - NOT.  Be interesting to see how they would handle that when the policy is in full flight.

As for warnings on size nothing comes up if self hosting only if using the eBay picture service. Min size is 500 px  but I think 525px would be safer given eBays use of automated technology and not real people to check.  I am also worried about the system picking up book, DVD, Game titles as illegal text etc.  Maybe thats why it's not in full force until 2014 still trying to sort out the bugs, won't be surprised if it gets delayed even longer.

I have 12 photos that are small, but evidently adequate (highlighted in yellow).

But I also have many more photos that are 1040 & below 1600 on the longest side (over 500 on shortest side) - the message I'm getting that these are alright.  If I try to raise these I get blurry photos.

No photos in red highlights.

I don't understand why eBay has to have a different size photos to that other Aussie QS site, their recommendation is 1040 on the longest side.

Often my photos are a tad small so if they are I just enlarge them a bit. The quality is basically the same. As a buyer, bigger and more detailed pics are usually always a plus.

Does anyone know if these rules are being enforced yet, particularly..

Other picture requirements to be introduced next year may include the removal of text and borders. Small translucent watermarks in the bottom-right corner of images will still be allowed.

.. because I still see plenty of photos with text, logos and other junk plastered all over them.

Those images are likely grandfathere and uploaded before the policy was put into place. My guess there will be a grace peroid of a few months

I empathise with you and agree this is ridiculous policy change. More though it is typical stand over tactics ebay are using on their own clients. Like you, the pictures we have all had on for years are suddenly in breach (oh excuse me - in VIOLATION) of their precious policy.

Ebay are good at reminding us we can use the bulk edit facility to update these pics but Lord, has anyone in that conglomerate tried this? What a tedious and time consuming job. I've been doing 25 at time and takes me takes well over an hour (or longer still)  waiting for that infernal spinning message stating 'uploading'. I emerge from the task in a grumpy, confused and thoroughly frustrated state.

Here's the irony! We all know the blurb and rationale eBay use to justify this step. Bigger is better blah blah. Well guess what eBay, most of us are just resizing the old ones up anyway so nothing is clearer or better - many of mine look like **bleep** but time contraints are forcing the issue for me. Generally I have around 1,000 items listed and cycled automatically. Of course now nothing gets relisted until I update the pic so I'm down to around 400 listings with more dropping off each day.

As if eBay doesn't take all my time as it is!!! Sheesh, there must be an easier way to make a living....

Sure, many will be grandfathered, but what of the new listings and listings posted within this transition period?  it is now well past febuary  i have seen today a new listing (in a category i list in and view frequently) in which the image used is plastered with text and a bold red border. in the listing it states it is brand new. i have not seen this previously.  The seller is a titanium powerseller.. perhaps rules apply to some and not to others.
