possible scam? not sure

Hi I received an email from paypal a week or so ago, it was a receipt for a payment of an email item. The problem is I never purchased the item. It looked exactly like a proper receipt with all the sellers details, I even clicked on the item and it came up legit.. I checked my paypal account and the money was not missing. Has anyone had this happen, and would the seller be involved?

Thanks

no the seller would not be involved you have been SCAMMED

you should never ever ever ever EVER click a link in an email, that could let the scammers into your ebay and paypal account, into your computer and maybe even eventually into your bank accounts etc. too.

right now you should change all your passwords and run a virus scan on your computer.

Thanks but I didnt click any of the links, I went to paypal through the proper way. I get similar scam emails but this one was different. I knew it was a scam just wondering if the seller was involved. How did the scammer get their address?

Hi as a new user on E bay any messages i receive from E bay or Pay Pal also get sent to my Email address and i have received a lot on my Email account saying that i cant see the pictures on my adds that i have listed on E bay to sell so click here or the latest was that i have Zero dollars in my PayPal account. Which is scary to here but they also want you to click here and add funds. So lucky i have never done this i think and so i have been told from friends also not to do this at all on your Email address. So may i ask if this can happen on your Email whats stopping those Hackers doing the Same on E bay or PayPal ? And how safe really is all this computer stuff. These computers say to change your pass word every now and then so hackers cannot get in but really it would be like changing your back door key every now and then or remembering that enter code on your door or gate every time you change it. If Humans can make it Humans can break it. So really how safe is E bay or PayPal.???

Ebay and paypal are as safe as any internet site.  If you take the proper precautions there is no reason expect any problems.

Are you just as suspicious of your banking website or any other website that you use regularly?

As Lyndal has said its as safe as any thing else online, treat any unsolisited email with suspicion, never click on a link in an email and the more demanding or threatening they sound the risk of it being a scam goes through the roof.

Never even look at the links in those emails

All ways login to the site by your normal method and check it out that way.

I have an email address that is only used on ebay and a different one for paypal

All the scam emails come to my normal email addresses and just get deleted

also watch out for emails from friends ect, l got a `click here` email, but my friend did not send it. The scammers are getting smarter @ smarter. So don`t get complacent, l resend mine to  spoof@ebay.com.au    or   spoof@paypal.com.au
