Hi guys
It has been many weeks since I have shipped an ebay item (much of this to do with my local PO's attitude,
but that is another story).
I want to prepare myself for selling/shipping again, whether that be ebay or elsewhere.
Ideally I would like to keep my PO time to an absolute mininum so don't want to have to do any/much
fiddling, packing or paperwork IN the Post Office.
My options?
Ebay labels or Click and Send.....
Prepaid Parcel satchels? How does one get on with the red (normal) or yellow (express) satchels
if they need to add extra cover or signature? Can any of these services be pre purchased eg people
used to buy rolls of Registered Post stickers....
If I can add extra cover etc to normal parcel post satchels (or even own packaging) but have to do it AT the Post Office, is it an
easy process or does it require filling out paperwork at the counter?
Thanks...

The satchels are cheaper I think from Australia Post rather than purchasing other manufactured ones. The BX1 box is a good price for postage cost but what can fit in them (except for 1Kg)? And why don;t they have a 1KG satchel?? The next box size up is the same price as a 3KG satchel. Plus the Boxes themselves are a rip, maybe in bulk a reasonable price.
I have no idea why Australia Post structured the pricing how they did but it seems rather crude. A 1kg BX1 box as compared to a 500g satchel for example........Those boxes originally could hold more weight as well.....

I don't know how many parcels you send but it might be worth investigating an e-parcels account.
The PO supply address labels (normal and express) free of charge, and you print them at home,
Cheers,
Marina.
Thanks for the info. I am just a casual seller so would never qualify for an e-parcels account.
As for the address labels, I use a nifty little Dymo LabelWriter, quick copy and paste of address or other info and
it spits out the label in a few seconds..

@davewil1964 wrote:If you are selling through eBay, eBay postage for 500g and 3kg satchels is significantly less than AP or C&S satchels.
If you buy the satchels from the AP eBay store, there is no minimum spend.
500g - 15c each (in 20s); postage $7.15.
3kg - 21c each (in 20s); postage $11.70.
You can also use Bx1 boxes for up to 1kg. Postage $7.15, boxes have to be purchased from AP. $1.75 in singles.
All postage costs get added to your eBay account.
Thanks Dave - yes I think I am going to do that, I do like the simplicity of the ebay labels also and one of their redeeming features provided they are working ok! I'd rather the ebay label fees didn't get added to my account but I think someone said they just paypal the amount to pay it off?
I believe they add it to your monthly ebay bill

Not meaning to hijack OP - but seems kinda on topic so advice or links for these from others reading this thread will be appreciated
That reminds me, I think that mob have nifty cardboard (flat box) letter-sized mailers. Adds to shopping list.

Add some boxing tape as they need to be taped up/

Try a B1 box through C&S - pushing 12 bucks.
They were originally 5kg, but now 1kg. BUT if I have less than 850g (allowing for box weight) of books that go over 500g and 77mm or less thickness, it is a better option for the buyer than a 3kg satchel.
And I always do the best postage I can for my buyers.

There's a small window between 500g and 1kg where the small boxes sent through ebay are fantastic value. There's quite a drastic reduction in price when you buy in bulk, even for smaller amounts. I haven't used them yet but I've looked into them for future use. I got the PO to weigh one for me and I think it was 99g, so that leaves 901g for the contents and tape/labels. Don't take my word for the box weight but I'm pretty sure it was very close to that.
ebpackaging also have labels in various sizes that may fit your dymo machine. Not sure if they'd fit but I thought I'd mention it. I've bought sticky-tape from them and their service and products are second to none.
The AP lodgement receipts I get have four to a page with perforations between them so you can just tear them off. I don't post a lot of reg'd items so they suit me fine. I stick the large reg'd sticker on the envelope and the smaller bit on my lodgement receipt. They're a light pinkish orange and white on the left, with a red strip across the top and bottom of the right side of the slip.
Edit: the old forms that used to be in triplicate don't exist any more. It's much more simple these days and a LOT easier.

Gawd I hope the flat rate boxes for under 1kg remain ~ fabulous value for sellers AND buyers for stuff that can be squuuueeeezeeed into these.
Just shame they aren't a little bit flatter & a little less tall as they would then fit soooo many more items items than they currently do IMO ~ which would mean buyers would get better deals on a whole lot of stuff

Does anyone have a sample image of these they can post/show me?
Also, my dymo Labelwriter is a godsend. It is so quick to fire up and spit out labels.
I normally spit out 2 of each address label - one for the package and one to stick
on the back of my scan receipt (or other record). Am curious to know how big
(dimensions in cm) the 'space' for addressee details is on the lodgement receipt.
Thinking I could just stick the duplicate label on here rather than hand writing the details.....
ps and thanks for all the extra details englishrosegardens....this is the kind of info I need.
Until I get a grasp of all the various new things available sometimes I am still stuck in
the dark ages remembering things like Certified mail, receipted delivery, security post,
BT boxes (now called Bx4 boxes), frama labels and all kinds of forms and paperwork

You can also print them off yourself.
