I recently sold a videogame, the seller had the option to choose registered post for a bit extra, but choose standard post instead.
My postage prices include the HANDLING costs of a item, the materials to pack the item, petrol to go to the town to post it ect...
now he is saying he never got it. he admitted the postie left items on top of his letter box ...
it has almost been a month, i posted it on the 2/01/13... maybe the mail is backed up from new years??
I don't know what do do..
i have the postage receipt as proof that I did send the item. and he acknowledges i did send it, but is still saying he never got it.
I can't help but feel he has gotten the item... which is why i will be contacting his LPO first thing tomorrow morning, and I already sent a inquiry to australia post about the missing article...

Provided you don't just drop it in a red box and hope it gets scanned somewhere along the journey.
Which was one of the original selling points of C&S and I daresay sellers who have never had a problem would still do that.

But it does get scanned at some point in the process.
If you hand it over the counter, itโs scanned at the time it enters and leaves the system.
If you put it in a mail box itโs scanned when it leaves the system.
Therefore irrespective of whether it is initially scanned on entry or only on exit the point remains that you have proof that at some point in time it was in the system.
In fact the only real detriment arising from putting it in the mail box is the off chance that Aust post may lose it before it arrives at the receiving centre, which means the seller may not be able to prove it ever entered they system; which means they may have negated there deemed delivery rights.
Now if you will excuse me Iโm off to the Peninsula to look at a house on the water. Time for a sea change.

On this I must disagree... In that it makes things so much easier if you need to produce proof of postage more than 30-odd days after the sale. Scans aren't guaranteed unless lodged at the counter, and tracking info is available for a limited time online. As people can initiate a chargeback up to 12 months from the date of payment, if you have both a copy of the shipping label (by saving the pdf doc) and lodge over the counter, guaranteeing a scan and gaining a lodgement receipt, you have everything you need to qualify for seller protection without any rigmarole.

Australia Post can view scans via their system archives, well beyond the time that they are visible on public tracking. A lodgement receipt is not required.

Maybe so, but I said without any rigmarole - i.e. you have everything you need at hand and don't have to rely on anyone/thing else to supply what you need.

lol - isn't there always rigmarole when a parcel is missing

I suppose so, but there's no point adding unnecessarily to it.

"i posted it on the 2/01/13... maybe the mail is backed up from new years??"
I came here wondering the same thing whether mail was backed up as i have had 4 buyers stating they haven't received their purchases over the last month and half whereas prior to Christmas i had no issues..Unfortunately mine were sent via standard mail so i have nothing to protect myself so i have refunded all the buyers but I'm now concerned about how often this is happening. My mother who is a power seller has noticed as well an increase in items not received, this last couple of months and now has stopped selling as she was concerned about this too.

Maybe the back up mail has something to do with the fires in many states over the past few weeks?
