Hi I haven't sold for a while and noticed Australia post has changed their reg and tracking. They say now that you pay for signature for around $3 and then another I think $1.50 for insurance. Do I need to do both for seller protection? What do they require now? Ive tried to ask on paypal but their site is playing up and when I press the button nothing happens to email them.

Paypal seller protection isn't the only thing to take into consideration.
I use click & send lodged over the counter for the majority of my items and don't bother with signature required unless it is a more expensive item which I want to insure. While the basic c&s service may cover me with Paypal if AP fail to deliver an expensive item I want them to have to compensate me, I don't see why Paypal should have to.
For anything that will post as a large letter I only register if it would cost me more than the cost of the item plus postage twice to send a replacement which would be registered..
I would not rely on the limited tracking available for ordinary small parcels or red satchels without signature required as they only show proof of posting to the nearest delivery centre.

so I can just pay the $2.95 for signature? Can you register prepaid satchels?
you can add SOD and Extra Cover on any delivery service
but seeings as tracking is standard with all prepaid satchels, thats all you need for PP seller protection against a claim for item not recieved.
if you want PP seller protection for letters (printed matter) up to 500g (theres no tracking service available for them either AP or C&S) prepaid registered mail would be the cheapest.
[i dont bother with it, depends on the value of the item]

Gary - when selling internationally different rules apply for seller protection on different ebay sites as some countries have the ebay buyer protection policy which overrides the Paypal Seller Protection Policy.
For buyers who purchase from the US and UK sites proof of delivery is required - proof of postage as mentioned by others is not sufficient for Paypal protection for those buyers.
You will also find that many buyers from other countries, such as Russia, often register on the US site and make their purchase when logged into the US site so proof of delivery is also required in these instances.
As a general rule registered international post is trackable on the US, Canadian and UK sites so that can provide proof of delivery if required. Registered International Post is also trackable on many other international postage sites.
I generally don't have too many problems with parcels going astray to International Buyers but I have noticed the US buyers in particular get very panicky if they are unable to track their item.
I dispute that most wholeheartedly. I can prove by the payment of ebay Australia final value fees where my sale has taken place and therefore what paypal user agreement governs the sale
What does it cost to sell on eBay.com.au?
http://ocsnext.ebay.com.au/ocs/sr
So the fees I am charged as per my user agreement specifically relate to s sale on ebay.com.au .... not to a sale on ebay.com or ebay uk.
I sell to international buyers and have not agreed to or signed the international selling agreement.
If an item sells ( or is listed) on ebay US or ebay UK then I would also need to accept the primary currency of that country.
I only accept payment in au dollars.
If you allow ebay and paypal to push you around with obfuscated policies then inevitably and invariably they will......

well yeah, you do right the right things, add the tracking number in your 'my ebay' sold item for a start. and keep the tracking number sticker stuck on the OP receipt for safe keeping just incase for a item not recieved claim.
if the item actually got lost.. PP flips the bill, PP wouldnt take the funds from your account.
you can get PP seller protection against a claim of item not recieved by using your own packaging for standard small parcel service of $6.95, as long as you provide proof of shipping. at the PO you would make sure the buyers details are on the reciept
what sort of PP cover do you want anyhow?

OP=PO

The pp cover i want is "if" the item is not received, i want to definately make sure the tracking no is enough for proof or do i need the reg $2.95 for signature or and $1.50 for insurance.

I'm pretty sure that you need tracking information as well as proof of lodgement.
I write the post codes beside the tracking numbers on my postal receipts and then they stamp and sign them.
I'm pretty sure you don't need the sig or insurance for pay pal "item not received" protection.
