The buyer will usually get a reminder notice from AP after a few days, which will say the parcel will be held until a certain date - I think it might be 5 days after the second reminder, but I also think they often hold on to them for a bit longer than that, as I had a registered package returned to me about a month after sending it because the buyer never collected it from the post office, but the initial delivery attempt had been a little over 3 weeks before it was returned.
If it is returned to you and the buyer wants it resent, they would need to pay P&H costs again.

hi digital
thankyou i was not sure how that all works
initially the buyer was a npb,but paid after lodged npb
so they cant ask for money back through paypal if they dont pickup and it gets returned to me,as i sent it with tracking?
they would have to repay another $8.25- to repost by me?
i will keep an eye on tracking site to see if they pick up
thanks again tara

If they lodge an item not received dispute, your proof of postage will likely mean that they won't win the claim, hopefully it won't come to that, though.
I would refund their money if the parcel had come back to me and they didn't want it re-sent, less all costs incurred such as postage and fees, or otherwise send a new invoice via PayPal for the second lot of postage to resend.

I received one of those auto emails from Aust Post about a parcel l were waiting on. The tracking showed it as waiting at my post office.
The email went on to say l had 5 working days inwhich to pick up the parcel or it would be returned to sender.
Important: Your item will be held for a limited period.
If you cannot collect it or arrange collection within 5 working days the article may be returned to the sender.
A postal awaiting collection card may also have been left for this item.
Current Photo Proof of identity and address will be required to collect your item.
I always thought it was longer than that. Wasn't an issue as l picked it up that morning but l did think the Aust Post tracking email is a bit in-your-face blunt.

Our post office gives 5 working days for pickup and then sends a reminder notice with another 5 working days. I have no idea how soon after that the item is returned to the sender as I have never not picked up within the timeframe.

Mmm OP if you are relying on tracking alone to let you know that parcel has been collected from Post Office you may be waiting a long time indeed.
Many Post Offices do not scan regular or express parcels as delivered when they are collected.

Can you please outline how you actually know that the buyer has not collected the item already ?? Am I missing something ??
One of my post offices scan nothing that I collect from them - nothing. So those parcels that I pick up, will only ever show in tracking as waiting for collection.
Personally with my buyers hat on, I would start getting annoyed if a seller sent more than one message regarding collection of an item that I had already picked up.
