I have a theory, and I just wanted to know who agrees and who does not! I was recently left negative feedback from a buyer who claims the dress she bought from me was stained. I know it wasn't, but that's beside the point.the buyer was incredibly rude, called me a liar and a scammer, and that I should be ashamed to sell on Ebay. She never contacted me at all regarding her issue with the dress, and if she had of,I would have cheerily refunded her and let her keep the dress. She just left me feedback, which wasn't particularly nice (negative feedback usually isn't,I know!) I want to know why Ebay hasn't made it so a buyer cannot leave negative feedback unless they contact the seller FIRST to resolve the issue. The seller could offer a refund or an exchange. If they ignore the buyer or refuse to help, then negative feedback can be left. if they come to a happy conclusion, then neutral or positive can then be left, keeping both parties happy. I no longer want to sell on Ebay, and I know people who have shut down their Ebay accounts all together due to one buyer ruining their feedback because they were too thoughtless to contact the seller first. When feedback is ruined, buyers are not going to want to go near you. I tend to avoid Sellers with really bad feedback, but I check to see what was written first. I know that Ebay would be non existent without buyers, but it's the seller that gives them something to buy in the first place!

I have always understood that contact needs to be made before a neg can be done. You need to tick that box before you can proceed.


 


But I guess if the system doesn't check, members are simply ticking the box even if no contact has been made.




It is so long since I have left a neg for a seller that I am not sure but I think some have said that you no longer get any prompts before leaving a neg.

thankyou for your kind comments, that does make me feel better! have you been receiving chargebacks? that happened to my mother in law over a pair of boots. the buyer claimed she never received them, then tried to do a chargeback. my MIL rang the buyers local post office who said the buyer had picked the boots up! so the post office faxed her a confirmation of pick up, and that was forwarded to paypal, and the chargeback was cancelled! we also contacted the buyers local police station, who were extremely interested im what was going on. it turned out the buyer had a history of chargebacks according to her feedback. ebay have since investigated her, and her account has been inactive for a while now! im so sorry to hear that your losing such a large amount of money. its not right.

thankyou for your constructive criticism. im not going to say im a perfect ebayer, but i try to uphold ebay policy, not flout it. i was not aware that a seller could not leave neg comments under a pos feedback. i wont be doing that again. thankyou for enlightening me! i have seen other sellers do it before, and thought, since sellers cant do anything to fight a nasty/abusive/scamming etc buyer, i thought i might as well say something to warn other sellers, especially if the buyer is a scammer (e.g chargebacks when they have received the item). if this idea was put into effect, i would absolutely uphold it. my follow ups were probably less than proffessional , but i cannot tolerate being called a liar and a scammer, when i am neither. and as to my negatives left for others, i did not receive my items at all and had to go through paypal to get my money back. the other item arrived broken. im not going to leave pos feedback when i pay for something thats broken or does not exist! im only human, and i cant please everyone.

there are some cases where sellers are just after the money and have no sense of buyer satisfaction. if they are too sloppy to package an item properly, and its gets damaged in transit, then fair enough, negative feedback should be given. but if the seller is appologetic and offers an exchange, then maybe accept the exchange at their cost?? i dont know, every transaction has its differences .

I am a seller and I disagree that buyers will leave a neg even after a problem has been fixed. Some may, but most neg simply because they either do not know the correct procedure, or as said above it is a knee jerk reaction.

Rmsimmons,I hope that you honestly did take what I said as constructive criticism as I definitely didn't mean to be horrid ๐Ÿ™‚


 


IF you ever receive a neg or neutral again,in all seriousnes,walk away from the computer for a while,punch a pillow,kick the cat,annoy your hubby lol or whatever BUT just take the time to think about what you can do to fix the issue.Even write a crappy email where you put exactly what you'd LIKE to say & then delete it lol


 


I leave negs too but I think about what I'm going to write 1st,don't write in capitals as its considered yelling & try to put as much relevant info in the letters allowed.


 


Anyway,I think you're ok & are taking onboard the responses here in a pleasant manner.:-x

A seller can't leave negative feedback, the option just isn't there, so the only warning can be a negative comment on a positive fb.



If you caught my other thread before it was removed, if any of us were unable to leave negative feedback instantly, more people could be scammed by somebody showing a 100% feedback score.



The only negative feedback I have at the moment resulted from a customer making contact to my direct email account while I was on holiday and I was only checking my ebay mail. But if you check it out, there is a way to reply to that feedback and that can show that you did correct an issue rather than ignore it.



Nobody would declare the feedback system as being a perfect guide for transaction safety. People shouldn't put as much importance on it as they do, that goes for sellers as well as buyers. Sellers giving up because of one comment, eat some cement and harden up, you're going to get that regardless of what means of selling product you employ.
