I agree with you, as a new Buyer to E.Bay, I always contact the Seller, out of cutesy, and to ask about the product.
Most Of the Sellers are wonderful, I have an ongoing dispute, with a Buyer , due to a slip of my fingers in the last minute of bidding.
Instead of $40.00 I bid $4.000, I have tried to reason with her,
and I went back to the bidding, it was too obvious , the other bidder went up and up, so I paid in good faith.
I still haven't received the item, all her goods sell for $35.00- $45.00, I paid $220.50.
I have asked out of the genuine mistake , to return my money.
It has left me so wary of Sellers.
So if I like it I bid what I think it is worth.
Never again, will I bid in the last few minutes.

Yeh thats a bit rough.
Have you requested that she revise her FB?
Regardless, only HV sellers can absorb -FB. Small sellers can really suffer - so I can sympathize. For example HV sellers with ~99% +FB can have alot of -FB that will eventually scroll off the first page and be gone in 12months.
For example a seller could sell 99 $1 plastic buttons in a week and receive +FB but sell 1 $1000 item where the sale fails miserably and receive -FB for that.
Thats:
99/99+1
99% +FB for a week.
Pretty hard to beat.
All the best.

If you make a typographical error, ebay allows you to retract your bid. You can read more here:

I'm not sure why you wanted to pay 'in good faith' and are now asking for a refund.

I know it sounds corny, "I wanted to pay in "good faith,", and are now asking for a refund."
I have had several conversations with the Seller, I said at that price? and the previous bidding suddenly jumped after my .
accidental genuine mistake, I have checked the bidding history,
I have checked feedback, I am worried I paid $220.50, for a paste pearl necklace, as the Seller doesn't know.
Thank you for your advise, I was making a statement about honesty, I wouldn't sell a piece of paste jewellery without history, and expect to get $220.50 for it.
I presumed good People are every where, I trust the Seller, as I am sure , you trust the Buyer.
Sometimes, we make mistakes, but never at somebodies genuine, mistake and expense.

An auction goes to the highest bidder. So hardly the seller's fault. Plus this is about the fourth thread you've put this in. We pretty much know about it now.

I agree 100%!! 1 negative can ruin a whole years worth of work if you are not selling alot. We work hard to keep everyone happy, but the system doesn't protect us from buyers who take the easy option.

OP, it would be nice to have that option as mandatory but I guess it makes us work harder to avoid the negs.

The feedback system is rather *simplistic*.
A feedback % figure based on total sales (of those that gave feedback in the last 12months) and what percentage of those sales were from +FB, you would have 2 completely different figures for buyers to review
+SALES % (+SALES/TOTAL SALES)
+FB COUNT % (+FB/TOTAL FEEDBACK) - What we have currently.
AVG %
This would benefit both the buyer and the seller, because a seller who did really badly on a $1 plastic button will have a bad +FB COUNT % but the +SALES % would be largely unaffected.
With figures related to 100 total FB:
$1000 total sales with $850 of +SALES = 85%
100 total feedback with 3 -FB = 97%
AVG = 91%
A buyer can see that %25 of this sellers income (through ebay) came from pissed off buyer(s) even though 97% of feedback is positive.
However a seller with great FB and one failed sale and -FB with a $3 button:
$1000 total sales with $997 of +SALES = 99.70%
100 total feedback with 1 -FB = 99.00%
AVG = 99.35%
*Now that AVG is better than 99.00% in the current system.
But this will never happen. ๐

I agree a seller should be given the opportunity to rectify a problem before a buyer makes a fuss. However, looking at it from the buyer's point of view, the way a seller is seen to conduct themselves, eg feedback and comments left for others, could have a bearing on the course a buyer chooses to take.
