I believe its only buyers that can make their feedback private. (correct me if I'm wrong) For those wanting to sell, that choice is not open to them.
I would say that its all part of ebay's attempts to make the buyers' side of online trading as non-transparent as possible.
If the buyers have anything to hide in terms of their trading conduct, ebay is only too happy to aid and abet, in my opinion !!

Possible reasons:
They don't want relatives/friends to know what they have bought.
The item is valuable and they don't want the local pond scum to know they have it.
They don't feel the need to display their trophies like peacocks tail feathers.
They are on selling items and they don't want buyers who know they have the 2 different accounts knowing how much they paid for the items.
They quite rightly think it is nothing to do with anyone else what they have bought.
I am sure there are many more but I see nothing suspect about a buyer making their feedback private as it must be at 100% and doesn't tell you anything about the buyer's trading practices.

When the ID's and purchases were seen I did not want others knowing what I was buying or how much I paid.
There is a lot of people here that have nothing better to do that stalk other members to see what they purchase and what feedback was left etc only to then take any feedback left out of context to cause an incredible amount of trouble by assuming the wrong thing and not asking to find out the reasons behind the feedback.
Also as I (on another ID) sell what I buy I do not want others knowing what I got and how much I paid for it.
No sellers do not have the option to have private feedback.
They used to years ago but it was changed as buyers were not able to see how trustworthy a seller was.

NO
And to be honest it is not really private when one knows how to search for it by methods other than via ebay.

Bad buyers couldn't care less, and it would be too late by the time sellers read their fb anyway. Only preset blocks offer any degree of protection against serial bad buyers.
