wrong postal address given

Hi everyone I'm wanting to know whose responsibility it is:    I've posted an item to the address the buyer had logged into Ebay under view order details which gets emailed to you when you've sold an item  Then I've gone to contact buyer to send a message to let them know it's posted & noticed a little note to sender telling me that they've changed address (same suburb).  I straight away send an email telling them I've already sent it and they need to intercept it at P.O.  I've just received the  parcel by return post & for me to resend it will cost me. Who's responsibility is this?

Did you look at the view item details before or after the buyer went through checkout? If it was before have you checked the address on the Paypal transaction page and is that the address you posted to. If it wasn't then it is your mistake and you should pay to resend.

If it was the Paypal address then it is the buyer's fault, you should just tell them that as they didn't change the address in checkout the address you sent to was automatically transferred to Paypal and that is the only address you can use if you want seller protection. Perhaps offer to resend if they pay half the cost of postage.

Personally if it was a reasonably high profit margin I would probably explain that I didn't have to but I was going to resend the parcel free of charge. Spending a few dollars on good customer service can be well worth it if they become a repeat buyer and they often do if you go above and beyond.

You must always post to the address in Pay Pal no other address regardless if its right or wrong your only protection is when using this address.

In saying that if a customer asked me to send to a different address I would simply say no problem sir as soon as you have updated your details in Paypal I will post to that address for you. otherwise No .

sweet..... they cannot change their address by 'updating' AFTER payment, then must choose a postal address BEFORE paying.

you can have as many addresses as you want in paypal, I have several, mine, my grdaughter, my daughter in law.. etc.etc.  when buying for them I have items sent directly to them, by choosing their address when I'm going thru Checkout before paying.

@putney32  Yes but not everyone is that savy on ebay and this buyer obviously is not otherwise it would have been done before sending a note with the payment.

And you can update your details at anytime. It just wont be on the payment statement you received from PP prior to them updating it but you can recheck it after they have updated it.

As stated, it doesn't matter what they do after the payment, that won't change the nominated address for THAT transaction. The only way to fix it is refund the buyer, resend the invoice and get them to nominate the correct postal address.

I just send it to where they want, especially if it is a large letter where I have no seller protection anyway.

Yes that's correct and fair enough if you have no protection anyway but if it was a high priced item what would you do. ?  And yes to have the statement changed to show the new address on the statement you would need to cancel and have it resent, but I'm just saying they can change it before you send the item on PP and then you can view that it has been changed to verify that it is the new address they want it sent to.   At least its recorded and if they change it back after you send it and try to claim a INR eBay PP will have the record of it proving something isn't right.

Lets see if I can make the week out this time before I'm banned again hehehe.

You are travelling well so far. Reasoned argument (which I don't necessarily agree with, but reasoned nevertheless), only one minor slip on the abusive scale.

Keep this up and I can't see any reason why you can't last forever. The trick is to play the issue rather than the poster.

I agree its not a full proof way of doing it but like I said if it was a high priced item what else could you do other than cancel and have it resent and most would get annoyed at that and not repurchase once it was cancelled.

And buy making them change the address prior to posting at least you have a record of one the email asking you to send to a different address and two its on PP record that it was changed buy the buyer. That has to be better than just taking a gamble and sending to an address that is not on PP, That way they (PP) will know the address was changed and you were asked to send it to that address which is now recorded on there PP account.

That has to be safer.

This happened to me too, now I log in and print the invoice for every bank deposit payment from the ebay invoice that comes up in Selling Manager Pro.

Otherwise I use the PayPal details.

Unfortunately you have to wear the cost, AP won't take it back.

THey also won't repost a letter that has been returned to you by mistake when they send it to the return address. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Now I always put the return address label on the front/top/left of the envelope instead of the back.
